Ok, I'm going to be buying my g-ma a 20 inch iMac, and will be getting the wireless set, and since I already have airport express the printer will be wireless as well. The question I have is, I want it to be a completely wireless setup but she has a usb scanner. Is there an adapter that I can plug the scanner into that makes it bluetooth? If so this would be great. Thanks in advance.

I dont think so. If you wan the best experience, just plug it in via the USB port. Scanning over bluetooth prob wouldnt work to well.

I doubt bluetooth will work. You'll want something like the airport express that gives you a wirelessly usb port over Airport Extreme. Have you tried plugging it in and seeing what happens? It'd be quite cool if it worked.

I don't know of such an adaptor, and even if there was one... This machine is for your grandma? You don't want the headaches from some funky adaptor not working all the time.

Maybe if there was an all-in-one printer / scanner / etc that was bluetooth... but personally, I'd do USB.

I would say that this is definitely your best bet; I know they're starting to make Bluetooth printers, so this wouldn't be a big stretch.

Yeah I guess she will have to live with one wire, lol. Also I do have an airport express but someone on this board already told me that a scanner does not work, through it. I don't I'm at college right now and am not able to try this. Thanks for the help.

Also, could you link me to a printer that offers bluetooth?

One more question. Would a printer/ scanner/ copier combo work through airport? Thanks

network scanner

They do make network scanners. I'm not sure if they make cheap ones.

I've seen them work in different ways. Sometimes you run a special application on your desktop that interacts with the scanner over the network. Another way is to have the scanner just dump the image to a predefined network location.

tried this myself many moons ago and guess what .... it don't work

printers only on APX

Good Luck.

a) I can't see BT being fast enough for a scanner connection.

b) My HP PSC1350 refuses to scan (or even be seen as a scanner) even when connected with USB2.0, although it'll print happily by Airport and copy without a problem.

I've had 3 scanners in my life and I think I only ever managed to get each of them to scan once!

*resolves to tackle this problem tonight, again*
