Purchased a used 08 model about 4 months ago and it didn't come with any disc. Now when I boot up it gets stuck on the loading screen. And the screen is kinda blur, static, tiled if that makes since. New mac owner so not sure what to do. I have already did apple s and it said volume and hd were ok. Any suggestion.

Probably a failing graphics card. The 2008 models experienced a known failure with the NVIDIA Graphics Card, and this looks like it very well might be that problem. Depending on the age, however, it's likely to be out of the repair timeframe. I'd take it to an Apple Service Center and get them to test it, and see if Apple will still cover it. If they won't, it's gonna be a fairly expensive repair if that's the case.

There's some small chance it could be software, though. You'd have to get a disk you could boot from to confirm. If you don't have one available, try calling Apple, they should allow you to order replacement original disks for about $10, usually.
