I bought one of these cables (http://eshop.macsales.com/item/Newer Technology/AUTO12VUSBB/) to plug into the usb and aux port in the center console of my 08 BMW 328i. It works great to play music, the problem is charging. I would say about 1 out of every 10 times I plug it in, the phone charges. The rest of the time I get this "This accessory is not made to work with the iPhone" error message.

Anyone know any solutions?

Try cleaning.

From my ex. with my first generation iPhone 8GB on this same issue, it seems a good cleaning of the iPhone's dock connection can sometimes resolve this error.
Try blowing it out with some compressed air.
