They don’t do that anymore because of the complaints. Thank Jesus. It’s pretty pathetic that the charge $80/year for CarPlay. Apple should restrict them from doing that.

Tesla does not allow Carplay. It’s one of the reasons I don’t want to get a Tesla.Yes, since the Tesla UI is already very good and not like my old Lexus UI when I would just click on Carplay right away(most annoying part is not allowing you to start in carplay). Google maps takes a bit of getting used to since it doesn't show traffic signals. But it is still better than any built in GPS on the market.
TBQH it feels like something Apple designed.
They did actually charge for it…At any rate they never actually charged for it.
And it drives long distances without forced break. My 2012 VW Golf has BLUETOOTH.
Good lord, that screen is ugly. They literally just plopped a long-ass screen on the dashboard and called it a day.
They did actually charge for it…
For the initial cars that supported CarPlay before the subscription was added it was a $300 one time fee at purchase. Then BMW moved it to either a one time purchase or a subscription. Then then decided to make it free for all cars MY2019 or later (which had a subscription option)...
If you have a BWM before MY2019 that didn’t pay the one time $300 fee at order time then it won’t support CarPlay…
They made it standard in 2020 and covered models back to MY2019. For MY2019 cars they started manufacturing them in 2018. There are many users who paid for it as the trial was only a year…I guess I should have been clearer - they made it an option at time of purchase or before your free trial ended; but never did the $80 subscription charge.
2021. And yes, I also prefer BMW’s NAV, but the CarPlay integration has been improving. What year is your car? BMW’s CarPlay implementation already integrates with the heads-up display. That said, I prefer BWM’s native turn-by-turn system when driving.
90% of the BMW lineup had digital key removed because of the recent chip shortages. It was never meant to be dropped. If chip manufacturing can keep up demand, it should return for MY23 models, though it may not be guaranteed.i'm wondering what is up with the digital key — the page talking about it is outdated, and i don't see it being an option on the '22 x5 — even though it was listed as one of the models that should have it in '21... feels like they are dropping it. hope i'm wrong.
Do you know which ECM manages the Digital Key (clearly it isn't he gateway ECM, or is it?)90% of the BMW lineup had digital key removed because of the recent chip shortages. this is so frustrating tbh... i love the idea of it, and was so happy this was being rolled out...90% of the BMW lineup had digital key removed because of the recent chip shortages. I have a 2021 BMW with digital key and 360 degree cameras with auto parking assist. All three are unavailable in the 2022 models due to the chip shortage. I was lucky to get mine in April before this all happened.this is so frustrating tbh... i love the idea of it, and was so happy this was being rolled out...
great job! which model? this is sooo disappointing...I have a 2021 BMW with digital key and 360 degree cameras with auto parking assist. All three are unavailable in the 2022 models due to the chip shortage. I was lucky to get mine in April before this all happened.
it's beautiful! the 5 is so big now you don't need anything bigger(imho). i'm looking at an x3 and since last year digital key started at x5(which is so dumb), i was expecting the 22 x3 to feature it, instead the x5 no longer has it either(that i can see)
I thought these chargers were all open sourced and everything worked together? So not only do you have to find a charging station but you you have to find one that works with your car?lol no not even close. Let's say if I am driving from LA to SF and need to stop at Tejon Ranch to charge. There would be at one time 5 available EA chargers(along with like 16 slow chargers at the outlet) assuming no one is using them at the time. In the same location Tesla has close to 50 chargers.
Tesla Superchargers all tend to be in more convenient areas as well, next to fwys and surrounded by fastfood/starbucks. EVGO/EA/Chargepoint puts their chargers in Walmart parking lots.
Technically Tesla is the only vendor that uses a different plug for charging (Nissan has both J1772 and chademo). Tesla includes an adapter for 240V (what is called level 2 AC) charging. There is no official 400V adapter (yet) for level 3 (technically still level 2 DC) charging. Note, this is all in NA, in the EU everyone has the same physical interface so any car can use any plug.I thought these chargers were all open sourced and everything worked together? I’m glad all gas stations sell gas. Makes driving a heck of a lot easier.

So the Supercharger network in the US is closed because 1, it looks for a Tesla VIN to start charging, and 2 it is a physically different plug than what other EV's use. Tesla has talked about opening up the network and providing an adapter but that hasn't happened yet (in the US).
nooo idea tbh. i looked into retrofitting but i have no clue in terms of coding. i already found the necessary parts for the vehicle (NFC/Wireless charging pad as well as door handle with NFC). i doubt the wireless charger will be plug and play which means id have to properly wire the 12V as well as the KCAN to properly communicate with the vehicle (I assume to passenger FRM). on top of that, if I want digital key (with my iPhone), I’m not sure if proper FSC coding will be needed as well.Do you know which ECM manages the Digital Key (clearly it isn't he gateway ECM, or is it?)
The wireless charging pad also doubles as the reader to start the car. I have mine set to require FaceID before the car will start.nooo idea tbh. i looked into retrofitting but i have no clue in terms of coding. i already found the necessary parts for the vehicle (NFC/Wireless charging pad as well as door handle with NFC). i doubt the wireless charger will be plug and play which means id have to properly wire the 12V as well as the KCAN to properly communicate with the vehicle (I assume to passenger FRM). on top of that, if I want digital key (with my iPhone), I’m not sure if proper FSC coding will be needed as well.
Excuse me????????? Are you serious right now. Yo…………… that’s… blasphemous!!! Why does BMW do these things!!The grill grows on you after a while, but the worse thing about these new BMW’s for me is the 1 series now being front wheel drive (based on the Mini platform).
I understand that. There are three different versions from BMW throughout the years… the wireless charging pad only, the wireless charging pad w. NFC, and the NFC only pad. NONE of these are available from BMW for nearly all MY22 models because of chip shortages. The wireless charging pad also doubles as the reader to start the car. I have mine set to require FaceID before the car will start.
You are correct, but that's why I also put cluster in there. You should know exactly what I meant.you have a 2017 Honda Civic with a heads up display? cus mine definitely doesn't have that lol. I'm just happy my CarPlay works at all cus it was a mess in 2017/2018
