It's obviously rather early in the game for a new iPhone form factor, but I've been using a scratched 11 for a year on account of being slow to get a new case and dropping it three days after I bought it, so...

I'm looking for a wallet case option for the 12 Pro that:
  1. Exposes the buttons on the phone.
  2. Doesn't have the mute switch at the bottom of a little well.
  3. Holds at least 3 cards and has a cash pocket.
  4. Preferably has a driver's license window.
For the iPhone 5s through X, I used a TwelveSouth BookBook and absolutely loved it. Then with the BookBook vol. 2 they replaced the thin shell and exposed buttons with a fat silicon thing that I'm sure provides more protection but made the buttons feel horrible, and I couldn't reach the mute switch in the little well because of my fat fingers, plus the magnetic back slid around and felt weird.

Hated it, returned it, and got a Pad & Quill Bella Fino, which I don't like quite as much style-wise, but is still really nice.

I was really hoping they would revise the BookBook vol. 2 this year to fix what I hated, but they have preview photos up and it looks like no luck there (too bad--they could have used MagSafe to omit the phone shell entirely and turn it into a perfect case). And from the looks of the preview photos of the Bella Fino, it's been revised this year so now it has the stupid fat button-covering outer ring as well. Foo.

I really love the feel of Apple buttons, I really hate the feel of silicon button covers, and I'll be pressing that thing around 20 times a day for the next two years, so that's pretty much a deal-breaker.

The only other options from those companies are the Pocket Book, which exposes the buttons but is huge (I'd get a Max if I wanted to carry something that big) and looks ridiculous (wood? really?), or the Surface Pad, which is still in development for the 12 but I'm assuming is out on account of a shortage of card slots and probably insufficient edge protection for when I drop the thing.

I looked at some "best wallet case" recaps, but every one was either horribly ugly, had insufficient pockets, covered the buttons, or all of the above.

Suggestions for other options on the market?

I appreciate the recommendation, sdiori. Unfortunately that case has the same problem (or I guess I should say "thing I dislike") as nearly every other option available, button covers:

Depending on how rigid it is, I suppose I could take a hacksaw to the thing, but that's not exactly a great plan for a brand-new $70 case.

I did dig up some only-mildly-ugly, super-sketchy thing on Amazon that I might buy as a stopgap:

Wow, I really like the Pad & Quill, thanks!

I've been getting BookBooks for a while now - they only seem to last about a year.

Just pre-ordered one for the 12 mini I'm planning to get!

I've quite enjoyed mine, hopefully you like it as well. I liked the looks of the BookBook a little more, but the leather on the Pad & Quill option seems to have held up significantly better. I did get a crack in the plastic shell part, but it still works fine, and it looks like the newer version has changed the design so may be more robust.

Tip: If you don't like the elastic strap (I had no use for it), it can easily be removed and just left off instead of replaced by a different color. It leaves the two little slots in the back, but honestly they're not even noticeable.
