In the meantime you should just create an html page containing links to your favourite websites. Then you can use fancy icons as you like by using the HTML image tag.

You know just make a nice web portal page, and add the local or web link to it in the bookmarks bar.

A page like this feels similar more similar to browsing the web than navigating menus in the bookmarks bar.

I agree with everyone else- this is a great feature that Apple should add

I believe I had this feature working a couple of years back, but I can't figure out how to do it now. This really bites.

workaround?

Using Safari for PC, and just thought I'd share my workaround for the lack of favicons,

I use the character map (can be found by searching in the start menu on pc, not sure about on a mac) to find different letters, characters, and symbols to kind of differentiate between bookmarks. It's still alot of text, but at least with the addition of the tiny letters, it frees up space, and the capital letters let you know where the start of a new bookmark/word is

I want favicons i Safari too!!!! Comon Apple! I have 3 macs, an iPhone and an iPad 2 using iCloud to sync my bookmarks in Safari across the board. Only problem is safari doesn't have favicons!

With FireFox I would just delete the names of the bookmarks because the icons were smaller and more pleasant. It looked a lot less cluttered and was easier to just glance and click.

glims will give you favicons but not in the bookmark bar! Let's all email them so they can include them...

Just so I know what you're all talking about, you are talking about those picture icons a la Google Chrome right? That's my main problem with this. I would use safari just because it's so integrated with OS X, but I am NOT giving up my nice icons. SOMEONE FIND SOMETHING?!?!?! I've tried!

I felt like this needed a bump. 7 years old and still relevant!

I don't think its ever happening without a hack. Someone could figure it out. ;)

I really want to use Safari. Im actually growing tired of Chromes look.

OK, its March 2013 now, any update to this thread? Has Favicons been added to the bookmarks bar yet?

I have so many initialized bookmarks I don't remember half of them anymore. A simple imaged icon would've sufficed.
