Hi all,

I'm trying to find a solution for a windows upgrade via Boot Camp Assistant (or an alternative). I need to upgrade my boot camp partition from win 8.1 to win 10 on my MBPro 2015 running Mojave 10.14.16.
I have installed win 8.1 in High Sierra two years ago with no issue.

I already have the latest win 10 .ISO (Win10_1909_Italian_x64.iso) downloaded on my desktop and when in Boot Camp Assistant I clic on "Continue" button noting happen. No message, no alerts, nothing.
Apple support page for Boot Camp say to update to latest MacOS version but I need to stay with Mojave and don't want to update to Catalina.

Please, can anyone help me?
Any suggestion will be much appreciated

Thanks,

andre

Windows 8.1 support was dropped in Mojave, which makes High Sierra the last version to support Windows 8.1 in Boot Camp. Since they are two standalone operating systems they will continue to function independent of each other, however the Boot Camp Assistant will not recognize/interface with it properly. If you are preferring to do an upgrade install (maintaining files/settings), you can simply build the USB and install Windows 10 by selecting the existing Boot Camp partition. If you want the Boot Camp Assistant to handle the creation of a new partition, downloading of the latest software, and assist in installing Windows 10, you will need to wipe/remove the existing Boot Camp partition.

Thanks for your reply Altemose,

I have been able to upgrade my installation launching the setup from win10 ISO directly from Windows 8.1 in bootcamp.

Thank you again

Once you are upgraded to Windows 10, the Boot Camp Assistant should recognize the Boot Camp partition and allow you to make any changes that you need. Note that you may need to update the Boot Camp software to get some of the additional functionality working in 10, such as the function keys and advanced trackpad gestures.
