What specific Mac model with what Mac OS X version do you use?
If you write
I can't get the mac icon to come up in the window's tray
,
do you mean you can't boot into Windows?
Have you tried
Mac OS X > System Preferences > Startup Disk or holding down the OPTION/ALT key?
Can you provide any further details?

Example:
Mac (model: iMac, MacBook Pro, ...) with Mac OS X 10.y.x won't boot into Windows after .... if your issue is boot related.
Or do you mean the Boot Camp Control Panel in the Windows Taskbar? If so, install the Boot Camp drivers from your Mac OS X restore/installation DVD or the Boot Camp 3.1 update downloadable from support.apple.com/downloads .
