Like OSX and LINUX and UNIX and most other operating system. So i don't understand why you are picking on Vista here :)

I'm not picking on Vista just stating that its the platform i have to teach on & without privileges is a royal PITA, i understand what your saying about other OS's but as i don't teach on them i have nothing to refer to

Well you should have included a disclaimer stating that because it looks like you are Vista bashing!

You still have yet to give me any reason why you dislike Vista. You say it's a pain in the ass. Why is it a pain in the ass?

I think the 2GB limit is imposed by the Mac's BIOS. I've read about this before. You can't see the normal 3.5GB's that you see on normal PC's.

Your best bet is to install 64bit windows, that way you'll see all 6GB.

The 2/3.5Gb limit is due to the 32bit nature of the OS. It can only address 2/3.5Gb because its limited to 32bit addresses. In a 64bit OS, it can use 64bit addresses thus being able to recognize 2^ addresses that 32bit can hold.

It isn't very fast, it still has regular application crashes. Somethimes when i put it to sleep, it won't wake up, and i do have enough battery, and connecting to the internet is horrible.

Are you running it on that MacBook Pro you have on your sig.? What version of Vista (32bit/64bit)? What applications are crashing? Because I have the exact same Mac as you running Vista 64 and it's far from anything you've complained about.

I do have to say i was exaggerating a bit, but i did have a few application crashes. about 5, in 10 minutes, and all of them were like internet explorer, or something similar. Indeed, i am running this on my macbook pro, and it is 32 bit vista.

The 2GB limit is not the 32bit limit. 32-bit can access 4GB of memory some of which is used for system devices which means you can only use about 3.5GB of RAM.

The Mac Pro seems to have a memory limit of 2GB which has nothing to do with the software being 32-bit.
