Hey guys,

I bought a 2010 CMP 5,1 and I install a SM951 PCIE SSD. Then I use TimeMachine to restore my whole system (from 2012 MBP 15') to this SSD. But when I reboot the computer, it will not boot from the SSD. So I put the original HHD and reboot again, I can see the SSD mounted and I can see all the files transferred from TimeMachine.

My question is, why I can't boot from PCIE SSD? Or how to boot from PCIE SSD?

BTW, When I place the HDD back, I also press "option key" after I press the power bottom. But there is no option to select boot drive, it just boot directly from the HDD.

Thanks!!

Are you sure it is a SM951? Is it AHCI? It cannot be NVMe version. Where did you get it from?

Ohhhh. I didn’t know there are two versions. I bought the NVMe version. I bought from amazon.

I thought SM951 is the only version comparable for CMP so I purchased it without second thought.

Problem solved. Thank you!!
[doublepost=1517078748][/doublepost]I just searched NVMe version and it is so much expensive!!! Is there other AHCI PCIE SSD compatible for CMP 5,1?

Or is there anyway to make my current NVMe version work? Like firmware upgrade/modifications?

Thanks again!

HyperX Predator 480GB is your only choice these days. If you want new.
If not try and find an SM951 or XP941 AHCI blade on eBay.
