Hello, may anyone tell me if it's normal that my bootrom is still stuck on yosemite even if I am using catalina ? I am asking this because I want to update it somehow in order for my macbook (a1502 mid 2014) to recognize the samsung 970 ssd.

Unfortunately this is not true, or at least not anymore. My modded Bootrom was overwritten when upgrading to Catalina 10.15.4.
Interesting, my still haven’t upgraded itself, not even on the 10.15.5. What is your Mac and make of SSD?

Not 234.

Why would that be?

I have a 13’’ MBP early 2015 (12,1).
I had problems with video editing apps like fcpx and imovie after i updated to 10.15.4 from 10.15.3. Problems like artifacts, freezes and rendering problems.Audio editing was fine.
I downgraded to older OSs but the problem existed. Is there problem with the firmware update? Or anything else?
I updated to this 4th beta and got my firmware upgraded to 191.0.0.0.0. But that didnot fix the problem too in the 4th beta.
Apple released 5th beta for 10.15.5 2 days before, does that include another firmware upgrade? People say this fixed the freezing problem.
1.Does upgraded firmware causes problem in lower OS? And in apps like fcpx?
2.Will I be able to upgrade my firmware after I installed a beta version?

This crash should be fixed with 10.15.5 and the next security updates for 10.13.6/10.14.6. The GPU crashes on the 2015 Mac Portables in 10.15.4 and in 10.13.6 and 10.14.6 if you've installed the latest security updates. It has nothing to do with the firmware.

Your understanding of what a Mac firmware do is probably wrong, a Mac BootROM is responsible for get your Mac initialised and running before loading the OS, the moment the OS is loaded, the firmware basically fades away and then the OS have almost total control - this is a little different for T2 Macs, but the EFI firmware still gives control to BridgeOS/macOS.

Your problem is reportedly GPU driver related.

I experienced this problem when I updated from 10.15.3 to 10.15.4. But, when I downgraded the upgrades without any updates installed, the video editing apps are still not working. Except this everything went fine, no any freezes after the downgrade. But still when I start rendering in fcpx, the app crashes. Also Imovie and other video editng apps. How could possibly the error be persistent even after downgrade if it was not for the firmware?

Thanks. If its not for the problem in the upgraded firmware, why didnot downgrading fixed my problem with the video editing app? Might be because the firmware that upgraded after 10.15.5 didnot work with the video acceleration tool of the lower OS? Any help? Its been almost 2 month since I last edited my video. Sad life!

You can always upgrade your firmware to the 10.15.5DP4 version and check if changes anything for you.

BootROM downgrades are not possible, by the way, Apple removed any downgrade possibilities after ThunderStrike.
