buddy and I both have brand new 13" i7 1.8ghz 256 sad (samsung) airs. His is about 3 months old. Mine i got today.

I didn't migrate any data and have used 20gb of space just between the base OS install and apps I have installed.

His machine boots in almost 1/2 the time that mine does. mine has 1 more startup item than his.

ideas? reasoning?

It's possible that your laptop has just installed some new updates (which would already have been installed earlier on your friend's laptop). Thus, for the next few bootups, it would take a longer time.

So my advice would be to just wait. OSX will eventually sort it out and (hopefully) boot up faster. :)

The reason is that MBA apparently relies on caching to boot up quickly. Every update clears the cache, so it needs a few reboots to "remember" how do do so efficiently again.

yeah and I had cleared my ~/library/caches and ~/library/Saved Application States

we'll see.
