Now we are finally at the screenshot I requested in my first response, but you have changed things since your last post so I don't know what the situation will be by my next suggestion.

It looks like there is an issue with your main partition.

There should be an indication that the partition can be resized in the lower right corner of the partition. (See for example: http://macs.about.com/od/applications/ss/diskutilitysize_3.htm). I believe that was true in 10.5 as it is in 10.6.

Since it is not there, we need to get some info on why. Your OS X partition may not have journaling turned on (I seem to recall that non-journaled partitions cannot be resized on the fly).

ON THAT SAME SCREEN. Can you please click on the OS X partition and post a screenshot?

EDIT: Can you please confirm that you are in fact running OS X 10.5.6 and not 10.4.x? Your screenshot looks strange. Not only does it not show the resize option, but it shows your OS X partition as completely empty. Some of it should be blue. See the difference here: http://www.creativetechs.com/iq/leopard_disk_utility_can_resize_partitions.html

OK 10.6.5 not 10.5.6. Makes more sense, but still surprising that you don't see any blue used space in the partition. Could have to do with journaling being turned off.

Now you want to select the Main OS X partition "Charlie ~ Emy's Master HD" in the left hand panel of the window. See the green icon labeled "Enable Journaling" in the tool bar? It should light up/be enabled now. [If not, post screenshot]

Click on it to enable journaling. [If that fails, post screenshot include error if there was one]

Return to the Partition Tab. Do you have a resize indicator in the bottom right of the "Charlie ~ Emy's Master HD" partition now? If so drag it as far down as it will go. [If not, post screenshot]

OK. We got to the last step. You now have a journaled HFS+ partition and Disk Utility still won't resize it on the fly. (Note the blue used space indicator works now).

Something else must be wrong with your partition.

Boot from your OS X install disc and repair the OS X partition on your internal HDD. You can follow the steps here to do that: http://kb.wisc.edu/helpdesk/page.php?id=3810
