I am trying to install windows 7 on my mac book pro. I'm using a usb flash drive and an iso file. When I selected my iso, my usb, and my partition size, It restarted. But then I see a black screen with the sentence "no bootable device insert boot disk and press any key". This makes no sense because the flash drive is plugged in. But when I reboot and hold option, the windows partition is not there. The only thing there is my Mac os x partition. How do I fix this? I REALLY need to install windows. PLEASE HELP!!!

You probably restored the ISO to the USB drive the wrong way. You must use Boot Camp Assistant to create the bootable USB stick.

If you're on a 2015 Mac, you cannot install Windows 7, as these Macs do not support BIOS-CSM anymore. These Macs only support OSes that fully support UEFI 2.0, and Windows 7 is finicky when it comes to UEFI.

I did use boot camp assistant. And I'm not on a 2015 mac.

I'm having the same problem with a 2012 mac mini. I was going to install a windows 7 I have and no matter how I make the usb I get the same warning. I decided to download 8.1 from ms and the same thing, I tried 8 and the same thing. I have used this 16gb usb to install yosemite before. It's driving me nuts, since yours appears to be a 2012 just wondering if it is something with this year.

"no bootable device insert boot disk and press any key"

I reboot and see the windows usb and still get the same error when booting to it.

I'll double check it tomorrow, have tried formatting both the boot camp drives and usb all sorts of ways but still the same error. It seems like one thing after another with osx, it's beginning to be not worth it.
