I have a late 2009 15 inch mbp. I upgraded the hard drive to a 640g and has been fine for a while. I previously was not getting the correct drive size in bootcamp, was only seeing 595g instead of 640g total partition size. when i look at finder it shows 639 gigs, so correct filesize. When i look at disk utility through utilites and also when i boot from the install disk, they both say 639gigs as well. When I look in grandperspective it also shows only 454gigs used, while spotlight is showing 486gigs used. When i add up all the items on my hard drive, they all add up to 486gigs, just like spotlight is saying. what the hell is going on? help!

ps, i just did a fresh 7 pass wipe because this was happening before as well, it appears the issues is still occuring

i understand how snow leopard reports drive size, but the fact is if it is showing it correctly in spotlight, why is it not showing correctly in bootcamp and grandperspective? im just worried about having 40 gigs of missing space

I've never used GrandPerspective. And by BootCamp you mean as reported by Microsoft Windows, right?
I still think this is where the confusion comes from.

this is what im seeing

Mine also shows difference between Disk Utility and Boot Camp, but I expect it is because Boot Camp is Windows centric and has to report the size to Windows the way it expects it. And it expects it in base 2.

That's all I have to say, maybe someone can provide more insight. Good luck.
