I don;’t think there’s a difference in reliability, but NTFS is certainly less of a hassle.

personally ive had better luck with Tuxera NTFS over Paragon NTFS on the mac side.
(Paragon ive had random mounting issues and corruption more often but im only one datapoint so your results may vary)

that said to go the other way I prefer HFS and APFS from Paragon on windows over for example MacDrive

I have been able to access NTFS drives on my iMac 2010. An NTFS driver was located in the System folder.

However, that does not always work, so it is probably safest to you the Apple solution; boot camp.
