Bootcamp won't install to internal HDD due to OSX on external drive

I've done some googling and coming up with blanks on this one.
I've got Lion running off an external firewire SSD, and have a 1TB internal HDD.
When running Bootcamp setup, it tells me it can't continue as can't install to external drive (or RAID)
Is there any way I can force it to use the internal drive? There's just data on there.
I have a feeling I'm going to have to do an minimum install of Lion to the internal drive, boot off that, then bootcamp.

Is there a less convoluted way?

Boot into Lion Recovery or an OS X DVD, open Disk Utility, partition your internal HDD as you want it, turn off the machine. Insert your Windows DVD, press and hold alt at startup to get the boot manager up. Select your Windows disc, and install Windows as normal to your internal HDD partition, install Boot Camp drivers from OS X Install DVD. 🙂
