You folks that tell me I got what I deserved- yes, I guess I did- but I bet if you wanted to blow of some steam, I'd listen to you and not act like a wanker.

It's easy to be one when you're out of physical reach though, isn't it?

Anyway, go have a beer and forget about it. I recommend "La Fin du Monde", a Canadian concoction I discovered yesterday. Excellent. :)

I posted to let off a little steam...

The boot has already been removed, and I'm already home. There was some minor frustration.

Didn't you know everyone here is perfect lately?

Karma has nothing to do with this.

Sure it does. When you get to be my age -- and a fair amount of wisdom does come with age -- you learn that the best response to someone whining about their fate isn't: You deserved it.

The safest response usually amounts to listening. The best: Wow! What a bummer. How can I help?

I've learned in my life that I don't always get what I deserve. To which I also have learned to say: Thank God!

I'll commiserate with you a little bit.

I actually got a parking ticket because they changed the rules while I was parked! It was 10 hour parking when I got to the garage in the morning. When I left, it was 2 hour parking and I got a ticket.

Yes I fought it and I got out of it, but WTF? And I know it's not the first time things like this happen to people. They just hope you don't notice or don't fight it.

You know what gets me is that the government can seize your property over a few tickets.
But I can understand that. A city like Chicago has millions of "parking instances" during a year. Say 30 million. If 3% of those result in a $30 violation, that's $27Million dollars. If 10% of those aren't paid, that's $2.7M dollars.

Sure, your 3 tickets are $90, but added up it's significant. It behooves the government to discourage people from not paying their ticket.

On the other hand, it also encourages them to make it easy to get one in the first place.

So if you owed $90 in property taxes you wouldn't have a problem with Uncle Sam padlocking your house? :p

If I miss two mortgage payments, the bank can start foreclosure proceedings. Why should the government, to whom I've essentially agreed to pay taxes, be treated any differently?

Just as long as your consistent. :)

I dunno, I just think booting is an incredibly idiotic practice.

i'd be pretty impressed if we managed to get my thread (griping about being caught for unpaid tickets) moved to the political forums!;) :p :D

Well, then, you might as well be in the same boat as we are.....karma will bite you for wishing bad karma on us (or implying it will happen to us).
 :D :p

None of this happened until the neo-cons took over. Bush and his cronies driving the Iraq war precipitated the need for individual municipalities to build revenue wherever possible since federals funds have dried up in our attempts to secure our oil interests in the Middle East.

First time I saw someone booted was March of 2000..

Exceptions to every rule. Booting is now as common as moving "terrorists" to secret torture camps in Afghanistan.

Glad to see you have such respect for the laws of man. I'm sure you extend your morals to all parts of your life. I wouldn't trust you farther than I could throw you.

Wow. You're kidding with this, right? If you don't trust those who park "illegally" then you don't trust the entire city of Providence.

Getting what you "deserve" is only a justifiable statement when you actually get what you deserve. Do three parking tickets justify a boot? Three tickets seems far from chronic to me, and there are ways to collect money (such as collection agencies) that don't involve offense to personal property.

Fight the power, gwu. You should boot the mayor's car for not making enough public parking available.

Wait. Did I just come to the defense of Blackadder?

Some towns in the Cleveland area have been doing it for almost 10 years now.... but it still isn't terribly widespread here.

I know I'm a complete b*stard, but that doesn't mean I'm always wrong! :D
