They look better than the tampons that are AirPods. And they probably sound and stay in the ear better. (Based on using and loving soundsport Bluetooth with the wire and the EarPods that came with my iPhone 7

I have the wired Bose SoundSport, and they fall out often enough to know that nothing will be different with these. why do the knobs/nodes/polyps on these have to so big???

These look like they'd be far too big to go running with, being actual in ear as well surely you'd suffer the terrible "boom" sound/feeling with every step?

I really like the way Bose earphones stay in your ear. The silicon tips they use are so much more comfortable than Beats X, JBL wireless, and even than Apple's Air Pods.

I recently had trouble with an old set of Bose wired headphones that I've had for years, so I decided to buy some AirPods. They were OK, but the sound quality was terrible unless I was actively shoving them into my ears. I even went so far as to buy rubber tips for them to try to increase sound quality, but they were not even close to the sound and comfort of my old wired Bose (although I loved the wireless aspect).

So then I decided I'd try the Bose wireless set - QuietControl 30 - that goes around your neck and has the same awesome silicon earbuds I like so much. Sound quality was great WHEN IT WORKED  The giant Bose headset somehow lost connection anytime I moved. I could literally hold my phone next to the Bose QC30s and cover the phone or the headphones with my hand and the sound would cut out. Bose's Bluetooth radio antenna sucks in the QC30s. I did a little research and apparently this has been a very common complaint with the QC30s since they came out. I have an old Motorola over the ear headset from like 2009 that has WORLDS better Bluetooth reception than the QC30s.

I tried the Beats X with the little rubber eartips and the wire between the headphones. Three things really sucked about those: the eartips themselves were nowhere as comfortable as the Bose and seemed to want to fall out, no matter what size I used; the sound quality wasn't great; and the on/off button on them was stupid annoying to use.

I ended up going back and buying another Bose QC20i wired set for now. I doubt I'll give these Bose units a try, since they aren't noise cancelling and I imagine they'll release similar ones that are noise cancelling soon.

I don't care if I look like frankenstein's monster IF they fit and work as well as my QC20i headphones. But I kind of doubt Bose can pull it off after trying their first attempt at Bluetooth QC30s.

EDIT: According to Bose, a 15 minute quick charge in the case gives the headphones 45 mins of playtime. Apple manages 3 hours of playtime for 15 minutes charge. --- Also, Bose says "Call audio will be heard in the right earbud." WHAT? Not even stereo phone calls? AirPods are far from perfect, but Apple certainly got a lot right on them.

People looked stupid enough walking round with one Bluetooth earpiece in, we’re all going to look ridiculous with two of the dumb things dangling out of our lug-holes

What would you expect? Most Bluetooth earbuds are used in pairs for a complete audio experience. You have the option of using one or both when listening to music and calls. You're claiming its 'ridiculous', but who really cares what someone else thinks about a set of Bluetooth earbuds in someone Else's ears. Function over form.

I also noticed AirPods a lot when I first saw someone wearing them. Then I realized they would be completely ubiquitous if they had wires coming out of them. So they would look "normal" someone seamlessly glued wires to them? It makes you realize it's a ridiculous reaction. This is going to become the new normal. We're already part way there.
Not real sure about that... I don't think other wireless buds look bad. These literally look like someone ripped the cables out of the old ones, and I'm SURE that was the thinking behind the decision. I just think it didn't work in practice. dropping down like that? Totally unnatural and unnecessary. Form not following function here.

I don’t just buy things without extensive review. This is basically the soundsport with no wires.

Bose soundsport had great sound/connectivity according to many reviewers. Shortcomings included the look and discomfort when wearing for long periods of time. And obviously the whole wire in general. Rizknows has a great review on it.

These are those with no cord. Im not buying these, AirPods, or the Jaybird runs.

I want a little wire. I need an easy quick way to change songs. I need to know if I’m doing a run and I’m done with music in general that I can easily wrap them around my fist and put them in a pocket without worrying if I dropped the little bud somewhere. I also can not tolerate pushing the little buds further into my ear to change songs or volume controls.

Furthermore I need some ambient background noise so the cars in nyc don’t kill me.

I enjoy running long distances and listening to music while doing it. I decided to pre order Jaybird freedom 2’s. They seem the best in terms of size, comfort, and practicality (speaking purely from a workout standpoint).

The price on air buds don’t bother me. There is a market for them. I don’t think it’s serious endurance athletes or gym goers buying them. I see the buds being more for the person concerned with looks and status symbol. It’s not easy to carry around the case for the Bose nor the case for the Jaybird run if you’re out wearing 5” running shorts.

It’s easy to wrap up a tiny wire and throw your headphones in your bag or pocket.

I’m not sold on 0 wire being necessary for everyone. It’s not for me and I suspect I’m not alone.

I did thousands of miles of runs with an 6th gen iPod Nano and iPod headphones over the years. It was great. Now the nano is busted (for the 5th time) and apple doesn’t offer any help. Wireless is only necessary now because the watch has no 3.5mm port. And it’s awkward having a wire go from your wrist to your ears.

I think you are mistaken - the weighted bottom parts of the AirPods are to create the same tension against the ear as wired EarPods which helps to hold them in place without foam or rubber or hooks or whatever. It's absolutely a function.

I stand corrected on that point. It certainly would be. However, I feel like they're jamming that peg into a different shaped hole. they could have achieved a good fit in other ways.

Honestly, the problem with fashionable consumer electronics (a market Apple invented) is that they have to be noticed. That's why over-ear headphones are so popular (yes they sound better, but let's be honest, before Beats people would likely think someone wearing them while mobile might be mentally challenged).

This is the kind of product we don't necessarily want to be noticed. Especially for runners, we want them totally out of the way. That doesn't jive with Apple's business plan.

I dunno, I've used AirPods and BeatsX extensively, and I ended up selling my AirPods to a friend. I prefer the reassurance of a cord around my neck saving them if they fall. And also BeatsX just fit better in my ears, and look better imo.

Can you compare the sound quality?

Interestingly enough, I got some cheap Anker soundbud slims as well as beatsX and they didn't sound that bad for $20. The connection on beatsX was by far the differentiator.

You people who trash non-AirPods wireless as looking ridiculous sticking out of your ear sure have blury judgement.

not to mention the terrible "boom" sound/feeling you get when hit by a truck if they cancel ambient sound

So, joueboy, thanks for this. You may have just saved my life.

I own several Bose products including headphones, the Bose Companion 5 computer speakers, and the Bose L1 1S portable PA system. The quality is great although over priced in my opinion. However, I will not buy another Bose product after they got caught logging everything their customers listen to so they can sell that information to data aggregators & marketing companies.

I believe Sony created the fashionable consumer electronics with the Walkman, Sport Walkman, Discman, etc.

Airpods would never work for working out for me. They just barely stay in my ears on the metro or sitting in an office. If I ran three houses down the street I'm sure they'd fall out - and that leaves us to other brands including Beats to try to stay out of the way...I'm still using Powerbeats 2 and Jaybird X2, the first USB type C charged model to come along will probably be the next I buy.

It sounds like you want the beats x or powerbeats, really.

That's why Beats are so popular then, because they are acoustically the best? Headphones are a fashion statement for a vast majority of people.
