HI
UPDATE - Decided to try the Companion 5's again, just in case I got a lemon the first which was why I was initially disappointed with the sound.

I GOT A LEMON - Just got a new a set about a year ago - and ALL the complaints I had with it are gone; the bass is incredible, VERY controlled and detailed, and this is from someone who has listened to, again, very high end audio solutions from B&W, Klipsch, Polk, JL Audio. The bass is excellent. With the bass adjustment dial at half, the bass shakes my whole apartment more or less. Phenomenal, to say the least.

Nothing sounds bad in "stereo" anymore. Everything sounds great.

The highs are VERY clean, and detailed. The imaging is excellent. The mids are there, and sound great.

So, in short, ignore ALL the negatives I mentioned about these speakers in this thread. If you ever get one that's not performing the way it should, return it, and try a new set. That's what happened with me.

Oh, and these walk ALL OVER the Logitech Z620's in sound quality.

Just wanted to update you all incase anybody here was curious in buying this set of speakers - well worth it. Again, I've owned studio monitors, and numerous other Hi-Fi gear, and BOSE really did it right the Companion 5's.[/QUOTE

I'm confused between Logitech Z620'sa and the Bose companion 5 as i want to get a better sound and better build and a speaker that will give me almost a pure sound and with high good low for music, games and movies and i want something that will last for a long period of years

Please don't even bother typing nonsense like this, it's a waste of time. You obviously failed to read my final reply to this thread.

Good day.

Bose is far superior sounding to Logitech. Much more musical and revealing, and far greater definition. Having owned both its Bose hands down.

Stop messing with Bose, or Logitech, or overpriced B&W and get real speakers from companies who know a lot about good sound. ;)

JBL LSR305 http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...rd_t=36701&pf_rd_p=2079475242&pf_rd_i=desktop

Or even for less money the Mackie CR4 http://www.amazon.com/Mackie-CR4-Pa...TF8&qid=1442357941&sr=1-1&keywords=mackie+cr4

Lol JBL. Their studio monitors are good but thats all that are worth buying. The Bose will crush those Mackies. Please start your own thread if you wish to parade your ignorance about Bose. Wink face

Sorry, that's not so much an attack towards you as it is the mindless, ignorant Bose bashing. I've owned it all, including very nice studio monitors by KRK and M Audio, and more, and Bose is pretty phenomenal. You will not find a better built or better performing ANC headphone the the QC 25. They really, and I mean REALLY stepped up heir game in the built quality and sound quality department over he 15s. My jaw hit the floor when I heard them in the Apple Store the other day, and that was the last thing I was expecting given my experience with their previous AE2s. Bose makes excellent speakers, but I was never impressed with their cans, until now.

I don't even own Bose anymore nor have any intention of getting them again anytime soon due to location and use scenario changes, but Bose is fantastic, especially for an enjoyable playback experience. The definition, detail, and imaging of the C5s **** all over almost anything else out their in their price range.

Lol just had to add, you honestly think BW isn't good, or worth the money? Sir...I just....what? Have you heard their stuff properly set up? Stunning.

lol
Never Mr. "I like them now, or maybe I don't, wait, I kinda like them, but the Bass is bad, oh I returned them"

Lol 12 year old with no reading comprehension. Did you just join this thread to troll? I mentioned later that I got a lemon, and the REPLACEMENT was outstanding.

Cry more about your lack of knowing anything about good audio. Jokes mate.

BTW those Mackies are **** and you're someone who probably has never listened to a properly setup Bose system and just bashes to sound smart. You're an insult to us who actually know our ****, because I've actually listened to it all, BW 800Ds on a McIntosh amp with my own source material, to the old 824 Mackies that you probably still know nothing about, and owning the highly revered Spica TC 50s running on NAD C325BEE.

Go away kid, you're annoying and add nothing to this thread.

Oh and go learn to read while you're at it, ok?

Also, in case you don't get it, what I'm saying is -

Is BOSE the best? No. Are they excellent all things considered? Absolutely. They have a sculpted sound signature and aren't suitable for any kind of mixing or anything, but if you want seeming that's very well built, lasts, has excellent design and some of the best customer service out there, then Bose is on top. Plus, the sound is very good.

An example is Paradigm. Amazing products, **** customer service. They're out. And probably for good.

Let me guess, you loved the sound difference that the cable risers made in the system didn't you? :p

Finally, you really don't know anything. I can't stand either extreme, snobbery or noobness. Cable risers and other snake oil crap is irritating, but so is thinking those crappy Mackies outperform Bose because of what your reddit friends tell you.

Crack a book.

I just bought the Bose Companion 5 set. Saw them at a Bose Factory store for $199. They are factory refurbished but the price was much more appealing than $399.

Anyway, what I was using previously was Logitech Z680's (Only R, L, and Subwoofer). I'm still on the fence about the Bose. In some ways, I like them, but at times I find they sound muddled. I wish I could adjust treble as I feel it needs more...

I also find that their "Faux" 5.1 imaging seems odd with music, but it varies from song to song. I know they recommend placing them straight ahead, and no more than 24" apart, but I have a 40" 4k monitor so that won't work. Not sure if placement is affecting my results or not... I have them at the corners of my desk angled towards me.

Placement is pretty monumental to proper imaging and all that. I find their build quality to overall handily beat the Logitechs - and I've owned everything Logitech makes speaker wise more or less.

Be sure to set your Mac or PC volume all the way up and have the Bose control pod volume all the way down, then slowly raise the control pod volume of the Bose until you find a happy volume level. This is CRUCIAL!

I would not downgrade to anything Logitech after owning these Bose. Sound is subjective, but def. the Bose are a step above the Logitechs.

Also I love the huge soundstage they provide. It is very accurate I have found.

Thanks for the response. May I ask why it's so crucial to have PC volume maxed and use the Bose control pod? I like the Bose control pod, but I also like adjusting the volume via my keyboard volume wheel lol.

It's how they sound card in the Acoustimass module works. The manual tells it better than I could, I just know that's proper for crucial setup..

Also I think you're a bit confused - by no means are you supposed to have it maxed out all the time; Bose means for you to MAX it out for the loudest you would want it, THEN back it down via the keyboard volume control.

I do the same thing as you, and for a pretty loud listening level I did what I (and the manual) tells you to do, then keep my Mac volume around 60 - 70% percent. For movies I max out the keyboard volume and man it's awesome. Shakes my whole place.

Hi, I have been surfing the net over the past few days regarding which pair of computer speakers to buy and I stumbled across ur thread. And I would like to say that it was one of the best things I ever did. It was enjoyable reading about ur initial hesitation, very informative, and towards the end even I was curious as to what u would do. Lol. U have really helped in clearing my doubts about which pair of speakers to get and I am grateful. Some of these Internet information is so confusing that one ends up more befuddled than before. So thanks once again!! Tomorrow I will go and check most of these speakers once again and hopefully will decide by the end of it.

I just got the Companion 5's, and have to say I'm pretty impressed about how they sound. I had read some articles about placement being a problem with the iMac 27", coz you can't place them further than 24" apart...the 27" refers to the DIAGONAL measurement, and the iMac is only 25.5" wide. I have it on a stand to be at eye-level, and the speakers are in front, just inside the edge, and 23" apart. Sound is crisp and clear. VERY nice bass, and I only have it half-way.

One thing I don't understand, is, for any USB connected speaker, not sure why the volume would change, as I thought you were getting a "line out" connection. Seems that would be something that could be made available?

Also, I know they say not to use any audio software with the speakers, but, has anyone tried using BOOM with them? I got it for the internal iMac speakers, and it made a BIG difference in the sound quality (still sucked, but, was better).

I bought this set of EXCELLENT Bose Companion 5 Speakers here in Costa Rica last June. Right now they are blasting some great Tom Petty Tunes connected through my EXCELLENT MM(Late 2014).
