These look interesting, but I’m holding a grudge against Bose for the software update that greatly diminished the ANC on my QC35II. Still no fix over a year later.

After numerous battery-related problems with my Bose Soundsport Wireless earbuds and their charging case, I gave up and bought a pair of Apple Airpod Pros. The Airpods don’t fit me as well, don’t (yet) similtaneously connect to multiple devices, and don’t quite sound as good, but their noise-canceling function, good battery, decent sound and proimised upcoming multiple-device connection are good enough for me. After my previously poor experience with them, Bose will have to go a LONG way to earn back my business.

You got a few months out of Bose headphones? You should make a video on that, many people would like to know how you did that. I myself am somewhat of an expert too, I survive my wired Bose sports headphones typically over 6 months or more (seated indoor use mostly, home office, Starbucks and such, no sports) before they fail and I need to buy new ones. I like the sound profile. A shame Bose pulled them from stores everywhere to push their wireless headphones.

I must just be lucky. I have QC12, QC20, QC35 II, and SoundSport and they're all still going fine with years of use.

I don’t like the look of these. The black looks like a bug and the white looks like a hearing aid. I’m shopping for earbuds, but it’s really difficult for me to find the right combination of looks, sound, and function in one product. It’s been a rather frustrating search for me.

I was going to try the APP, but I don’t think they will stay in my ears and any earphone that doesn’t offer volume controls is an immediate disqualification for me. I have to have that.

Hands down an instant pre-order from me. I have never been able to wear any Apple Headphone. They are the most uncomfortable things. Ears hurt after 60 seconds. Bose I can (and do) wear all day and literally forget I am wearing them.

The soft earhook design works for me.

And if you care about sound quality without sacrificing a svelte design, I totally recommend the Sennheiser Momentum TW 2.

How well do they stay in your ear? Can they be used during running? I was looking at Ultimate Ears 5 CSX for the custom fit, but I also wanted true wireless. I started looking at Bose because of that extra tab they have to help hold it in your ear, but I agree, they look massive.

Bose and Beats have nothing in common. Beats is a trashy product with oversaturated bass. Their mids and highs are non-existent.

That used to be the case. But a little update might be in high order :

Sennheiser M3, Sony WH1000XM3, B&W PX7, etc... all of them have a more elevated bass response than the Beats Solo Pro - while the Bose 700 is warmer overall. And most of them are much further off the FR curves targets that users preference research tends to demonstrate are favoured by most consumers.

They're not white, though. How does one identify as a member of the Apple fealty without white?
I for one would be eternally grateful if Apple would ban the use of the color White from everything they produce.

Space gray laptop, space gray keyboard with black keys (black charging cable), black mouse (black charging cable), black iPhone...

White charging cables for iPhone
White AirPods Pro with white charging cable.

I never thought the white looked good with the silver iMac/MacBooks, either.

Also the fact that only the right one can be used by itself is a bit odd to me.

As far as i know, the only truly wireless earphones where both earphones can be used by itself are the Apple/Beats ones. With all others, one earphone is the "master" and the other is the "slave," and only the master can be used by itself. If I'm wrong, and some other earphones work as equal pairs instead of master-slave, please, please let me know!

Yes, that is the thing I love most about Bose earphones, those ear hooks are the most comfortable things I've ever had in my ears, other than custom-made ear molds for hearing aids. I wish other manufacturers would use that design!

im too far gone into the ecosystem to get these. but if i was rocking an iPhone with a windows laptop perhaps, or a mac with an android, i would choose this instead. My airpods pro are great, but the left bud cant seem to stay in my ear when i go for a run, no matter what size silicone i use.

I'm definitely pre ordering these as I'm always chasing the next when it comes to noise cancelling earphones.

I've had the Bose Qc20 and then upgraded to the Bose Qc30 and they both had the most comfortable earbuds I've ever worn. Also the noise cancelling on the QC30s was easily the market leader at the time. Sadly there is a design flaw on the rubber cover on the neck band and within 12 months it will separate from the band. Bose will replace as they should (if you purchased from an authorised dealer). So I got my replacement set an sold. If it had been a rare issue I would have stuck with them to this day but it is a wide spread flaw.

I then purchased the Sony WF-1000X and later upgraded to the Sony WF-1000XM3 and have been very happy with sound quality, bass, touch controls and noise cancellation. The down mark is for fitment as the weight of these earbuds pulls them out of the comfort zone eventually, so your always aware they're in your ears.

I tried the Airpod Pros and appreciated the size, weight and fit of these earphones but hate the shiney white plastic that feels greasy to me. The noise cancellation was fantasic, equal to the WF-1000XM3 but the sound quality is poor in my opinion. Also my unit displayed an issue straight out of the box where one Airpod wouldn't charge and the error flipped sides in the charge pod. So I returned for refund. Glad I did after reading all the issues people have had with these earhones plagued with another design flaw.

I'm hoping the Quietcomfort Earbuds are my grail.

I looked at the AirPod Pros but bought the WF-1000XM3 and have been happy with them - I even find myself picking them up instead of my QC35 II headphones. It took me a while to get used to the feel of them but now I can wear them for extended periods without bother.

Samsung has had this posibility for a few iterations of their Galaxy Buds, Buds+, Live etc. AirPods were one of the first true wireless from the big brands to have this ability besides Samsung. Sony can do this with their WF-1000MX3 and some of their many other true wireless buds. Jaybird Vista, Klipsch T5, some of the newer true wireless from AKG and JBL are able to do it, so it's not unique anymore.

One of the bigger players in this area who still user the master-slave setup are Jabra and Sennheiser.

They come in two colors, black and white.

I have these and they do sound alot better then my airpods pros but the size of their case and the size of the earbuds is to large for carrying in my pocket.

Also the fact that only the right one can be used by itself is a bit odd to me.

But for sound quality alone these are the winner, for build quality and features and portability i would go with apple.
These aren't out yet. The start shipping on the 29th.
Unless you work for Bose, in which case I will pepper you with questions.

I must just be lucky. I have QC12, QC20, QC35 II, and SoundSport and they're all still going fine with years of use.
I must be lucky too. I have QC15, QC35, SoundSport, and SoundSport Free and they all work great as well. I had an issue early on with the QC35s, went into a Bose store, and they replaced them with a brand new pair. That was years ago and the new pair is still perfect. I've had no other issues, though the battery in my left SoundSport Free is dying after using them for hours every day for years.

Meanwhile, Sony is still offering one of the best on the market.
But the lack of water resistance is a killer.

I’m using the Sennheiser TW2 with Comply foam tips and they stay perfectly put. I think even with the stock silicone buds they are quite stable in the ear

How would you rate the noise cancellation and fit vs the AirPod pros?
I think I’ve read in a review, that the Bose (like many other in-ears) lack the pressure compensation that the AirPods Pro offer. Without that feature I wouldn’t want to have an in-ear, as e.g. every step is acoustically much more present in the ears.

Also, having the ear canal closed with a tightly sealed in-ear is something I can’t stand at all - the AirPods Pro are the first in-ears I’m fine to use for prolonged times.

The page they are selling them on crutchfield has a review by one of their employees. Either that or they just make it up to sell more of them. Hoping it’s not made up

Not sure if I misunderstand you here: The pressure compensation I was referring to is related to air pressure. The feeling you get in the ears when e.g. flying or scuba diving.

The review that you linked to mentions pressure point avoidance, which I interpret as physical pressure on a specific part of the body, leading to a sore spot.

Both are totally different things.

I get what you are saying now. I found the AirPod pro were comfortable but wouldn’t stay in my ears. My qc30 stayed in and were more comfortable for me but the portability of the AirPods was better. To be honest not sure if I noticed pressure differences between them. Will be interesting to try them out side by side on a plane. I suspect the shape and size of different peoples ears will ultimately determine which buds work best.

Personal it and feel are probably the biggest discriminator among earbuds and it can be literally painful finding what works best for you.

These look huge, just like the SoundSport truly wireless editions were. I have a good number of Bose speakers and headphones and they're great, but the small in-ears ones I never found to be long-lasting. I'll stick to my AirPods Pro.
