Ten minutes later there are about 50 people behind me. They are going around giving drinks which is nice. I got reassurance from a different employee saying that I should get one, but they just got the shipment so they don't know...

This is why apple is the greatest company ever. Not only did I get coffee but they just handed out sweet umbrellas!!!! That has made my day. I now own an awesome umbrella with the apple logo on it!

40 minutes after sales started and I'm still not even inside the store

line wraps around Fairfield, almost reaches Glaucester

The line definitely wraps around FAIRFIELD. I think it might even reach all the way to Glaucester (on Newbury).
I'm on Fairfield now and started about halfway down Newbury.

When they came around checking they said they'd have enough of what I wanted (64gig black AT&T), provided everyone in front of me answered honestly.

Good luck everyone! We're all crazy...

I got mine @ Cambridge side

I was waiting in like in the middle of Fairfield, so I was considered to have a good position. There must have been a 1000 people behind me, it was crazy. At 5, the line started moving but it was extremely slow. I found out it's because they take each person individually upstairs and have them look at iPads and decide on accessories. They also were doing personal setups, so that's what was taking so long. I just grabbed what I wanted and got out. Got my 16gig white wifi at 6:00! But I couldn't be happier now this thing is amazing! So is the smart cover!

I got there atound 2:30 and it was about a 100 deep, so I decided to go to Best Buy at Back Bay. was 10th in line and got my 32gb ipad wifi. Sat inside and watched movies off my phone on Netflix. Best Buy is awesome

Well, I made it to the holy land and was asked "what model would you like?" to which I firmly responded "I want the 64gig AT&T model, please." I say "firmly" because kind Apple Store employees came down the line shortly before 5 with iPhones asking what people planned to buy and noting such so that they could gauge inventory. I was kindly told that the 64gig AT&T model would be available for me. HOORAY!

Here, 2.5 hours after waiting 4 hours in line I sit on my couch with a fee empty beer bottles, some Knob Creek, and no AT&T iPad2. Yes, I could have purchased a wifi model, but I stood in line for four hours for a 3G iPad2, not a wifi one.

LESSON: press frequently and hard for inventory updates when standing in line on launch day!

Bummer. What time did you get there? I got there around 3pm, queued up 1/2way down Fairfield. Finally got into the store around 6, and they had my 64GB, black, ATT version available. The sales rep had to go downstairs to find one, however, so maybe they were running low on them as early as an hour after opening?

So YOU got my iPad2!!! j/k Thanks for the info.

I got there shortly after 4 and was almost halfway down Newbury, so I actually though that I didn't have a chance ... until they came down the line with that fun little iPhone app asking us all what we were going to buy and telling me I should be fine. They kept hope alive just so they could squash it later ;-)

Sat: no wifi or AT&T

Any left this morning? Or are they completely wiped out?

I just left. There are sold out of wifi and AT&T models. At least they came out and told us this time. There were about 100 people who stayed in line, and the Apple Store dude said they had enough iPads for everyone in line to get one, so I guess they had 100ish Verizon iPads. Ugh.

A day later, I'm not sure how I feel about the way this apple store handled this launch.

I was frustrated that I stood in line for 2 hours and then had to stay in that line for another full hour AFTER 5:00pm to get to the front of the line. When I got to the front I realized what they were doing. They would have an employee come to the door, shake your hand and greet you, walk with you upstairs and shows you the iPads. He kept telling me to take my time and no rush. I was quick and told him which one I wanted, then he came out with it and asked me if I wanted personal setup. On one had that is great customer service, but on the other hand when you have literally thousands of people waiting outside, maybe doing things more quickly would be better. I paid for my stuff as fast as I could and got out of there because I felt bad for all the people still waiting in line. I'm not complaining, I think they were very nice and really showed appreciation for their customers by making it personal, but I'm not sure if it was the best thing to do or not when there are so many people waiting.

Anyways, I love my iPad 2! I got the white one with tan smart cover and a wireless keyboard. I can't tell you how big of a difference the keyboard makes, I really feel like I'm on a laptop when I'm using it, especially since the smart cover angles the iPad so perfectly.
