All morning, I have been getting an error in a piece of software that usually means that there is a problem with the disk. Many times the error is a precursor to a failing drive. but it also occurs if you move a media file being referenced by the program while it is running and referencing the media.

So I went to Disk Utility to run a verify and repair, etc. And noticed that in Disk Utility, my boot drive (the one being referenced, as the file is on my desktop) has been changed to "/". However, in the Finder, the name of the drive is still showing as "Macintosh HD".

The Disk verified fine, and a permissoins verify/repair found the usual 7 or 8 things and says it was all repaired successfully. I can click on the text field of the name of the drive in Finder and type in a name and change it in Finder. However, I can not get the name of the drive to change in disk utility for some reason. I am sure I could format it and set it up with a new name, but it's my boot drive and that would be an entire day of reinstalling the OS and getting everything back to the way it was and I don't really have the time to deal with that. Something tells me the drive is not failing, as the verify/repair all went well.

Has anyone seen anything like this before? Is there a way to get Disk Utilty to change the name of the drive back?
