Both iPhone and iPad screen will randomly dim?
iPhone 6 plus iPad Air 2 both on iOS 11.1 but happened on previous versions of os. Both set at 100% brightness. Both have auto brightness off, random while using screen will dim eithe on batter or while plugged in and charging then just as randomly go back to full brightness.

Does this occur when the device gets warm/hot? On my iPad Pro 9.7” when screen brightness is full and I’m outdoors (even in shade) or running an intensive app such as a game it gets quite hot and the screen randomly dims. Not gradual but a sudden dimming. If I’m in part sun it can happen even when running Apple apps such as Safari. It always seems to occur in conjunction with the device getting hot and screen brightness set to full.

Not sure if you are ex the same or similar issue.

It happens to me too, especially on my iPad Pro. However, it happens to my new model as well as to the old 2015 modell.
Really annoying when working or reading or whatsoever.
And its not just a little. Because it is set to 100%, this sudden drop feels (read feels) like a good 30% drop in brightness. Takes like 5 minutes to adjust to that.
Happens to me even when working indoors on my couch.

I too have this and have figured it out. In part.

It happens to me when in bed. Being still. Move the phone and it doesn't dim. Hold it still and it dims. When it dims give the phone a little move.

No idea how to stop it though

Doesn't turning auto lock time to NEVER stop this? Its detecting inactivity normally, and dimming prior to auto locking.

It's not related to autolock. It dims after 8-10 seconds and only when the phone is still and tilted at approx 45 degrees. As you would when lying in bed. Turn the phone vertical or horizontal, make no movement and it doesn't dim.

Happens to me when the phone is under a large load and becomes hot. Typically when updating quite a few apps at once or during YouTube viewing.
