Hi,

Embarrassed to ask this, as it's so simple I should
know, but-

Re the bar on the bottom:

There is a vertical separation line on the right of.
I used to have to the right of this line, I think, a Folder
with a zillion other Apps, etc.

It's gone. There is just a Trash icon there now.

How do I get it to show there again, please ?

Are you talking about the macOS Dock? You can add things to the right side of the Dock (where the recycle bin/trash can is located) by simply dragging them (files/apps/folders) onto the Dock. Open Finder, navigate to the item you want on the Dock and just drag it down and drop it on the Dock.

I have the Application folder and the Download folder on my Dock:
