G'day,

I have been Windows user my entire life however recently picked up a 2006/2007 Mac Pro for just $150.00AUD (Bargain?) and I have some questions and also would like to mention the upgrades I have planned.

Planned Upgrades; I would like to hear opinions and such on these upgrades.
  1. Upgrade to Xeon 5355 2.66ghz processors from the Xeon 5150 processors.
  2. Upgrade to 16GB DDR2 667Mhz ECC memory from the 4GB of memory in the system now.
  3. Upgrade to a 120/250gb SSD from the 250GB 7200rpm currently installed.

Questions;
  1. With a budget of around $50 - $100AUD which Graphics Card should I purchase for the system? Which are the easiest to flash and work best with El Capitan. I don't mind not having a boot screen.
  2. What are the steps to flashing a GPU, I have a Windows Desktop PC currently. Which tutorial/s are best to follow.
  3. Can I expect El Capitan (Or any modern OSX) to run smoothly on my upgraded Mac Pro 1.1.
  4. Which is the best method to install El Capitan, will 'Pikify' work wonders? I don't own any other Macs nor do I have access to any.

Best regards, Thank you for reading my short thread and I hope I can enjoy my time on my first Mac.

1. I advice at least ATI Radeon HD 5770 1GB. Just a bit over your price range but a really great card. pro's: genuine!!! mini displayport (most possibilities for hooking op to any monitor) 1gb is more than enough
2. Take a 2e hand Genuine card, this will work for sure
3. Yes, you can have a smooth El Cap
4. https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/os-x-el-capitan-on-unsupported-macs.1889851/

Good luck with your project!
