so I though I had done my due dillegence. I purchased an iPhone 8 Plus and checked the imei, came back clean. Met him at an ATT store as well to check it’s not blacklisted.

I ensured it was signed out of iCloud. I popped my sim in and it worked.

However, I went to att website after purchase to see if they may unlock it for any future needs. It says it is still financed.

My question is say the seller doesn’t pay off the phone, what happens? Does the phone I get become blacklisted and unusable? Or does it simply just never gets to be unlocked?

My service is straight talk and is working on the device.

Phone has the model of A1897

Thanks in advance

The device will become blacklisted domestically.
Are you sure? Ive been reading online and it seems ATT doesn’t blacklist phones but goes after the contract holder.

I’m asking as I am sure this isn’t a novel case

I did the same google search this morning and read that they don’t blacklist and would go after the person who isn’t making the payment.

Spoke with ATT in person and they say that I won’t be able to unlock it until the term is paid off. However it won’t be blacklisted and my service with straight talk or ATT will work Even if they don’t pay.

So only thing may be always stuck with ATT

If true, that is good you can continue your service with the phone.
