I have an imac G5 with 512 MB RAM, just recently added another 512 MB . When I open about this mac it only shows 1 GB. Shouldn't it be like 1.24 GB?? or do they just round it off??

To get 1.25GB, you need a 256MB card and add a 1GB card to it.

That is correct. 1GB = 1024MB because 2^10 = 1024.
