I just got an ipad 3 64GB from craigslist. it is brand new. I went through the initial setup using my existing ipad profile saved in icloud previously.

when I first used it, it popped up and asked for my apple Id password and my email passwords, as expected. but it also popped up and asked for password for an apple ID that is not mine. something like "y2j12d@yahoo.ca"

is it possible the ipad was used before? but it was loaded with my profile from icloud.

Where else would the yahoo.ca email address have come from? Apple didn't enter that. Yes, it's a used iPad. Are you sure it's an iPad3?

It's Craigslist, so yes, it's possible. Everything on Craigslist is risky (and likely used)... even the women!

I wouldn't sweat it though. If it's clean, and works well, who cares if someone used it for a few days?

It's possible the person went through the initial setup before. It may still be new (timeline), but it may have been an opened package where the person initially set it up, but didn't do the full erase when they decided to reset the thing. However, a mint iPad 3 is still a mint iPad 3. It still retains the same value as it does now for you. Apple products hold their value quite well, even if it is an opened package. Unless there are actual signs of wear and tear, and the fact that you are dealing with a battery that's still extremely young.

I am sure that it is ipad 3. but I set up using my previously-saved profile from icloud. all IDs have to be from my profile, right?

from the serial number, it was manufactured on week 13, April

it is sealed like the retail box from apple. I bought one from apple and I know that.

I set up using my icloud profile that I saved from other ipad. how can a strang ID got into my profile?

The lady from Craigslist got three new ipad 3. if it is used, she would not own three ipad. a friend of mine bought one from her first.

Oh ok. So it was sealed. Interesting.

Do you download pirated music? That will cause your situation. It's related to your iCloud profile. I'm sure it was a new iPad

I have not synced my music from itune on my desktop yet. I just set up from icloud backup.

Did you use iCloud with your previous iPad? Are you restoring from an iCloud backup? If yes then iCloud knows the music you had on it and it will try to redownload any iTunes music.

I used icloud only to back up my previous ipad, and I restored from icloud backup. my music is only synced from desktop itune, not from icloud.

But that's how it works. iCloud saved the info of what music and what apps you had. When you restore from backup anything purchased from iTunes/App Store/iBookstore will be redownloaded. Anything non-purchased will have to be synced from your computer.

If you had any music that you got from torrents/got from a friend/etc iCloud will want to redownload that and so it asks you for the account information to do it.

Why would one buy a iPad 3 off Craigslist and complain about newness? Just go to a real store..

People always looking for a deal. Just like rolling a car odometer back. Very easy to rewrap used and stolen items.

Was it actually wrapped in cellophane with the Apple sticker seal? Could have been rewrapped, but it surely wouldn't look as professional as Apple's wrapping.

I bought new iPad 3 64GB for $600. That is why. Save tax and $100: $150 total. And still have support from Apple.
