    ok, so here is the deal.
    and yes i know, i shouldn't download illegal versions of software...but i did and now it's going to haunt me forever =(

    anyways.

    1. i downloaded microsoft office for mac 2008. (pirated)
    2. i recently purchased a legit copy of microsoft office for mac 2008

    Problem;
    when i uninstall the pirated version
    - i drag the application from the source to "app zapper"
    - i find all the microsoft files and folders and i trash them
    - i finally empty trash

    When i try to install the LEGIT version, it installs no problem but never asks me to input the serial of the Legit serial key.
    and when i connect to my network when office is open it say's "blah blah this office is already registered to xxx blah blah" this is because there was myself and this other guy using the same serial from the pirated version and it never lets us use office at the same time.

    anyways, now that i have a legit (never been used, brand new) serial... i can't even use it...(ie. it doesn't tell me to input the legit serial)

    any ideas?

    thanks.

    I think you should've used the uninstaller that comes with Office, rather than Appzapper, I think appzap misses key preference files relating to serial etc.

    I don't know where the key would be, so I would trash these folders and try again:

    users/yourusername/library/application support/microsoft

    users/yourusername/library/cashes/Microsoft Office

    users/yourusername/library/preferences/Microsoft

    library/application support/Microsoft

    Take the new one off, via the uninstaller, reinstall the "Bad" one, then uninstall it via uninstaller, it should remove all the old files. Then the legit copy, install.

    the Uninstaller worked nice to remove the trial version, Then I put a paid copy of office on my Mac.

    i'm not sure what did the trick as i removed these files;

    users/yourusername/library/application support/microsoft

    users/yourusername/library/cashes/Microsoft Office

    users/yourusername/library/preferences/Microsoft

    library/application support/Microsoft

    as well as used the uninstall from microsoft
    works great. thanks!

    The key is to delete those folders. Just uninstalling using the remove MS tool isn't enough.

    A lesson learned. Apps like Appzapper and Appdelete are really rather useless on big applications. Even on apps. that leave a small footprint, these "removers" inevitably leave something behind.

    Hmm, I would think the lesson learned would be not to install pirated software, but I guess the diversity of opinions and lessons we learn from life is what makes it interesting.
