Took the plunge on the Best Buy special, MBA 13" 1.6, 256G hard drive.

Starting online classes soon to further my nursing degree and have been interested/intrigued by the air line for a while. My luck apple with either do away with the line or launch some hot rod version soon! :D

Funny my 2011 MBP has better specs, than the new air. Eh, I'm good with it. I need to write papers, do research and "consume". I'm sure this machine will do fine. I picked up an external burner as well for $25.00 at BB.

2 questions-
I want a snap on case for the air, any recommendations for a reasonable price one?

How do I and can I use my CD collection via iTunes off an external HD?

A lot of people like the Speck cases like this one.

How do I and can I use my CD collection via iTunes off an external HD?

Sure... that will work. Open iTunes then command-comma to open preferences and UNcheck the box I pointed to here. Then open Finder and navigate to the music on the external drive. Now drag and drop the entire selection of music into iTunes. That will make a iTunes library for that music with the music still being on the external drive.

I found this article very helpful when moving my library a couple years ago. Take note of the section about moving the library database. If you don't take specific action, the database will be stored in the default location on the internal SSD. This can create a mess if you accidently start iTunes and your external drive is not connected. I ended up with a corrupted database this way and it was a pain to fix. But if you put the database on the same external drive as the media, this won't happen.
