I purchased two Mac Pros, one came with damage on the housing, and the other one was so hard to pull the housing out and put back in, was kind of ridiculous. So sad because I wanted to keep it (MP with housing issues) so much that if they could fix the padding I wouldn't mind, but these computers are so new they have no replacement parts, and the store employees hadn't even see one in person yet.

I figured I'd give it a shot after talking to the business team, and took it into the genius bar this morning, they DOA'd it after it took 3 people (2 to hold the computer down and 1 to pull on the housing) to take the housing off. What a shame and not very good QC obviously on Apple's end for such expensive computers. Still waiting for XDR display, hopefully no cosmetic issues on those.

Apple won't even expedite an order after RMA'ing the Mac Pros, meaning I have to wait a while to get replacements. Really bummed and throughly disappointed! The business rep helping me has been amazing though, he definitely wants to help and hopes he can get one expedited for me, but it seems the limiting factor here is Apple's red tape.

I've seen multiple reports of both fit and finish issues, and really tight housing.

I suspect that the US factory probably produces lower quality than the Chinese factory. Chinese manufacturers have been higher quality for a while. Hope Apple works out the bumps. But it's the downside of getting the thing made in the USA.

(Original poster didn't say USA, but I'd bet this is USA like the other reports I've heard.)

The casing is Alu metal and the casing bars are SS. They both have different temperature expansion coefficients and it could be temperature is at work here making sliding the case up and off can be affected with ambient temperature.... but surely Apple's engineers have thought and dealt with this issue... ;)

That sounds pretty horrible. Are you ordering from within the USA / Canada or in Europe / Asia?

USA

I tried the housing of the other Mac Pro that was cosmetically damaged on the one with trouble sliding it in, and it worked fine. So it was definitely faulty housing.

As I said in previous post, and really happy now about it, waiting for paid beta test period to end before purchase.

Thanks to OP for paying to test the bugs out tough!

That stinks I can only imagine how frustrated you must be right now. Appreciate the real world experience nonetheless. Good luck with this one. Please update hoe it works out.

Considering the msrp for these computers the Apple customer service people should be tripping over themselves trying to make this right.

wow that's extremely disconcerting and I am really sorry to hear that. I think I would actually cry given how enthusiastic I am to use mine in situ.

How frustrating, I am typing this from my 7,1 and the housing is a tight fit for sure. It's all on the little handle in the middle that turns.. I have had mine apart a few times already.

But is the case even made in the USA? Was there ever a complete public list of what Apple filed waivers for. I saw one where the wheels were one of the items. If they importing structural stuff the case could be in the same boat (perhaps literally).

Competing Chinese factory keeping the better ones and shipping higher defects to the USA. (who then get knocked for low quality so the first dropped when the run rate dies down).

I'm sure the one I will order in January will be shipped to Japan from China. Hoping for the 'higher quality' build.

Assembled in US requires around 80+% to be from US. That said, the US hasn't been doing this as much and is going to need some time to get its self back up to speed on manufacturing.

people purchase a version 1 apple product, at the beginning of its production run. seriously, anyone was expecting anything else? the review units will be ones that have been carefully inspected by marcom, disassembled, reassembled etc.

Well call it as you want, at the end of the day you can get your money back, there's nothing "paid" about this unless you keep the computer.

It looks like they applied for a waiver on the case. That really surprises me, for the 2013 the case was made in the US.

Watching the MR video would make me feel confident that it’s fine. Good luck and let us Know
Wow. You have the most rotten luck ever.

turn the sound up, you will hear a crunch!
opening the box tonight. i hope i don't find any surprises! DAMNIT

And he was on the phone at the time!

ps:they setup a hub in my neighborhood because of so many packages, and use golf carts and trailers for quicker distribution.

Oh my god man I would be so pissed off, I'd send that video to UPS. The box is heavy, but nothing backbreaking about it. Also, does he not have a dolly?

I will be contacting UPS for sure if there are any damages. I know in the distribution centers there is a lot of drops and bumps that can occur, so I hope the box was built for that -- it doesn't say fragile on the box or anything.

But what bothers me is the guy doesn't seem to be following protocol.
