I love sunglasses, but why the brand name needed?
I have 2 pair I love. Isn't that enough?
I paid $9.50 for one pair and $15 for another.
I don't understand how people justify spending so much money for sunglasses. One of the world's mysteries that I will never understand. *sigh* :(

It's an image thing. The same reason people drive a Mercedes C class when they could buy an Accord.

Plus, brand names tend to be higher quality, I know I can tell the difference when I see through a $5 lens and a $400 one.

Well......

As someone who owns two pairs of Guccis, I can tell you that yes, they are great, but no, I don't think that the difference is that remarkable. My Gucci sunglasses aren't even polarized. When (rarely) I need polarized lenses, I use this pair of RayBan's that I have. But yes, there is a quality difference. And a customer service difference. Granted, you don't usually expect much if you sit on a pair or something, but you'd be amazed how nice they are a Saks and Neiman Marcus sometimes.

Well $9 or even $15 won't buy me prescription lenses, won't get me the mirror finish I so love, or the polarized layer which is great for on the water and while driving.

That said, when I was a little younger and could see I never had a problem with generic sunglasses, but now I need the prescription lenses.

I have a pair from fossil, only $50.

My dad has Ray-Ban aviators and Oakley sunglasses. My mom has prescription sunglasses with Ralph Lauren frames.

I have lost 2 pairs of Oakleys over the past 2 years. That's a LOT of money. Oh, then I almost lost my favourite glasses of all time.....a $40 pair. I got them when I was looking at a pair of Pradas in HK and found a sweet $40 pair that were nearly identical in style (but was obviously not as good as the Pradas once you looked through the lens). Anyway, they were great, but I broke them after 3 months and lost them a month after I got them repaired.

The only pair I have left are a pair of Nautica sunglasses that are pretty sweet, but have been my least favourite. The frame is simple, classic, and beautiful, but just not what I'm looking for.

I was recently looking at a pair of nice Ted Bakers that seemed great, except they didn't block out enough of the sun for my tastes.

i'm thinking of getting another pair of oakleys...
I have a the minute or whatever its called in black and their so old, the white oakley park its rubbing off, plus i got them when i was 15 so they don't fit my face anymore.. :p

I'm a huge fan of Gatorz sunglasses. The frames are machined out of aircraft aluminum. I have a pair of the "Radiator" in anodized black aluminum. I had my optometrist put prescription lenses in. Awesome shades and the aluminum frames make them VERY durable. Not bad for around $100 a pair.

I also have a $5.00 pair wraparounds I bought off a street vendor. Love em.

Being almost totally blind when in sunlight, i have always used Oakleys until recently when mine old Oakleys broke (nose bridge snapped) and the local store didnt have any Oakleys that i liked. Long story, but i had a 8 hour drive ahead of me the next day, so i broke down and bought a pair of Arnette sunglasses for $70. They are ok, but they dont offer the same protection as the Oakleys IMHO.

I've always been a fan of cheap sunglasses - but a few weeks ago I splurged and bought my first expensive pair. Oakley Gas Can's. I really like these glasses :D

I really like most of the designs by Oakley, but unfortunately most don't fit my face right (I have a small face). But I did just purchase a pair of Fives 3.0 in the Crystal Black Polarized. I had a pair of Minutes in Metallic Black Polarized that I gave to my mom, because I had bought them when I was 12 and they obviously don't fit right 7 years later.

Well, I'm somewhat klutzy, and I've been known to drop, lose, sit on, and otherwise torture any pair of sunglasses I've ever owned. Also, the one time I paid more for sunglasses (about $50, if I remember correctly), the frames bent easily and the nose pieces were all out of whack, so I decided it wasn't worth it. I currently have two pairs - a $10 designer knockoff pair from target, and a Speedo pair that I think I paid $15-$20 for - I've actually had this pair for almost 2 years, which is a record for me. Technically, I suppose I've actually lost them - left them at someone else's house. thankfully, it was my mom's, so I got them back easily enough. :D

Since I don't need perscription lenses (I wear contacts), I find the cheap pairs much easier on the wallet.

Markup on sunglasses is ridiculous. REALLY crazy. about 100-500%.

I bought some raybans in Feburary for $120, left them 3 different places and luckily the stores/restuarants always have them for me when I go begging for them.

I have about 30 pairs of sunglasses (most of them much cheaper) but its a great way to change a look, feel cool, and go to horse races. I approve :)

I stopped buying Oakleys after the lenses scratched so easily, Last summer I bought a nice pair of frameless Revos that are great, and a few bucks cheaper then Oakleys with a better warrantee.

I don't wear sunglasses around town, but I bought a pair of Rudy Project glasses for cycling and am very happy with them. Cost a lot, even after a hefty sponsorship discount, but I use them all the time and they work great.

Okay, I understand the lense thing. And of course the image thing. But for some reason it seems especially frivolous to me when it's sunglasses.
Odd.
And I only wear glasses for the style, really. And I feel like I can find that at a low cost.
The most heavy-duty I use sunglasses is for tennis.

those Oakley's are very cool

i have a pair of MODO, Italian label they actually make alot of the big designer glasses!!

200 big ones..not cheap

I have a pair of Versace sunglasses that i absolutely love. I need to go see my eye care provider to see if they can retrofit some RX lenses in to them. My normal daily frames are Tommy Bahama.

I need to get some RX lenses in to my Versace frames, i dont think "cars are big" (My eye doctor said this when i had to wait 2 weeks to get new glasses after my last pair broke) will fly too well if i get pulled over and they see the corrective lenses restriction on my license.

I used to be an Oakley wearer, great for mountain biking and keeping crud out of your eyes. However Oakleys were never really lucky for me ! One pair I lost overboard while yaching off the south coast of the UK, one pair were in my Impreza when that was stolen at knife point back in 1998, and I gave up with Oakley Sunwear when I had another pair stolen which were inside my laptop case inside my car when I had my car broken into

So that's 3 pairs of Oakleys lost !

I now wear prescription Oakleys (not sunglasses) which cost me a bloody fortune a year ago (approx £400 / $700); I'm a sucker for Titanium

I wear a pair of Oakley A Wire polarized. They're my second pair of Oakleys. I need to get the lenses replaced soon, though... they are really scratched (almost 3 years old).

I have ray bans, 2 dolce & gabbanas, and an armani one.. and i think 1 or 2 more that im forgetting about.

the cheapest ones out of all of those were the ray bans and theyre sturdier and better built then all of the other ones combined. (found them at a gas station but that model retails for about $100 or something)
