I wouldn’t stress about it. You are probably only hearing the network adapter receiving data. If it really bothers you, or you think it truly is a problem, then contact Apple and see what they have to say.

Best of luck!

Humming noise from where? It makes a huge difference.

Use a plastic or wooden rod as a stethoscope like a car mechanic would but don’t use a screwdriver—don’t scratch your new machine. This is usually easier touching various points on the back of your iMac. Some point will be louder.

Is it a fan motor? Network adapter? Something behind the iMac? Your Cable/DSL modem? Top or bottom...

Once you have a location, it makes it easier when you talk to Apple.

If someone says, “they all do it”, make them prove it.

My bet is a noisy fan bearing. It’s a guess but something I’ve seen before. There are 3 fans in most iMacs and they aren’t always on.

A constant "hummmmm" would suggest the power supply unit.

When surfing the web only?
This may sound ridiculous, but does it still hum if you use a DIFFERENT browser...? ;)

The power supply unit in the computer?
