well, my new macbook has a problem.

the screen (when shut) is misaligned about a 1/16th of an inch, and all over the computer it creaks when pushed a tiny bit. barely touch the side and it squeeks...

i called apple, and they are going to send me a new one no questions asked.
for the 3 days i have been using my macbook, i have noticed i always have dog hair all over it, and dirt as well.

(i have 3 black dogs, and 1 brown, and a cat)

so i was wondering if i should get a black model.

would they think im trying to pull a fast one if i called back and would like my replacement to be a black one?
(with me paying the difference of course)

i really am not, and i am more concerned about just getting a "sound" laptop

i actually vacuum my room every day, and our house gets vacuumed about every other day..

is this possible?
they already "ordered" me a whitebook on my order status page, and are just waiting for this one to send it out

I am pretty sure that you can call them and "upgrade" to the black MacBook. At the very least, if they have already sent it to you, you should be able to send it back for the upgrade. Isn't there a 14 day return policy?

If they are going to send you a new one, ask them if you can upgrade at the same time. The worse they can say is no. If the original is defective and they said they would replace it I can't imagine why asking about an upgrade at the same time would change anything.

Cheers.

i hope they dont get it and say nothing is wrong with it.

i am an extreme perfectionist, and these problems probably wont be noticeable to some people (everyone in my family ran there finger along the spot where the screen and comp meet and nobody said there was much of a difference..

when i sent in my old MBP for repair (screen looked "grainy") applecare said nothing was wrong with it

it wont be going to applecare though will it? if im getting a new machine why would they want to repair this one

i got my refurbished macbook last week. the side where all the inputs and outputs squeek when i barely push it in. should i be worried? thanks,

That is just a result of the way all MacBooks are designed and assembled. The two screws on the left side near the ports are completely cosmetic and apparently do nothing to secure the casing. Frustrating.

wow, r u serious? "shaking my head", lol. why even have them there?

great news!

you always hear about great apple customer service, but rarely do you recieve it!!

i told her i wasnt so sure about having a white one, and didnt like the smaller HD. she said that since my replacement was already ordered i couldnt change my order, but she offered me a free iomega 120 GB external!!! she said i shouldnt have recieved one with the display off

i was extremely surprised, but i said i really did want a black one.
she actually canceled the new macbook, and turned it into a full on return/refund, then i can order the one i want

what great service!!!

edit: and those two extra screws on the side are a pitiful joke..
i actually think having less silver screws on a white or black body would look better...

My 1 week old macbook does that too.

i thought it was a QC problem but now I hear they all do it. I was afraid the screw was stripped so i took it out and put it back in and it was fine. I was like WTF?

Was thinking of swapping for the air but now i am hearing many of them rock a bit when sitting flat on a desk. So far my black book has flawless so i think i will keep it.

the case of my new macbook is misalligned a little too, it sits out on the right side and sits in on the left, is this not just the way they are?

next best thing :)

cheaper than the air, and more spec'd.
i dont need super portability, just enough to get around
(please not im not dissing the air)

just ordered my replacement/upgrade!
