Going to pick up my MBA at the fedex warehouse tonight.

with respect to the battery what is the best thing to do? plug it in when i get it? let it die out when i get it?

should i calibrate it? if so, how?

    any help is appreciated.

Yeah, you should definitely calibrate the battery.

And, if you are getting an SSD-equipped MBA, you might want to consider following the steps in this thread, if you have some time to perform an OS X reinstall:

Following these steps can save you 7 GB or more of valuable disk space.

You should also download the iStat Pro dashboard widget (through the Dashboard "More Widgets" panel) when you get a chance. iStat Pro tells you all kinds of important stuff, especially CPU temperature and fan speed.

just got my mba about 45 min ago.

the fan has been running at ~6200 rpm pretty much since i turned it on.

Will this die down? or is my machine faulty.... i know i will have to give it sometime...

    just some thoughts... thats all

my old ibook fan never turned on!!!

Yes, the fan is going to run fast while Spotlight indexes everything on your hard drive. Don't worry, it'll stop within a few hours.

Another thing: The Arabesque screen saver will cause your fans to spin like crazy. I recommend you use a different screen saver.

    Sounds good! :)

I decided to go with a MBP, but I drooled over the MBA for quite some time before making my decision.

The MBA is so nice looking and provides a wonderful option.
