Brand new MBP - should I update to Yosemite before doing anything?

I'm planning on getting a new 13" MBP... should I immediately update to Yosemite, or first set everything up in Mavericks and then update? Is it going to matter either way? New to Macs.

It would save you more time if you upgraded straight to Yosemite and then set up your new Mac. A lot of users prefer to do a fresh install anyways, so I'd personally go for that. Also, the installation process should be quicker as well.

You wrote you are new to Mac's, so let the seller do for you. It's only normal to get the latest OS with a new machine.
