I decided to pick up a pair of minis today for my office/home gym room. I plugged them both in, and each one was recognized. It even asked for me if I wanted to pair them (had to do that on my own with the OGs). Anyway, they were updating to 16.3 and configuring.

But they’ve been stuck like this for over an hour! Not sure what to do. Any suggestions?

Edit: Figured it out. See #18. Short story: Removed Home and started from scratch.

Unplug them from the mains and plug them back in again.

Edit: assuming you have restarted your phone first just to make sure the home app is showing the correct information?

Yeah, tried that twice. Now on with Support. We’re trying to set up with another device (iPad). Still stuck on configuring.

This is not enjoyable.

Thanks for the reply!

The amount of people with these problems recently is crazy. Hope you manage to get it working.
Thanks. Spent 3 hours with Support. They’re at a loss. One of the techs is going to follow up with me tomorrow. Right now, they’re STILL in “configuring” mode!! The last tech said they’ve been running into a ton of problems with the new Home architecture (which I have) and 16.3 in general.

I remember when Apple products were fun, now they’re a PITA at times.

I had to leave a couple OG HomePods to configure overnight. They finally completed but it was at least 12 hours.
That’s what the last support tech is hoping. I’m certainly crossing my fingers. As of now, they’re still stuck, and it’s been 6ish hours so far.

Try unplugging all the other HomePods and Apple TVs you have in the environment. Wait for them to show in the Home app as not responding. Takes 10 minutes or so at my house. Then reset the new minis with the other HomePods unplugged and see if get configured.

I’ll give that a shot after I talk with support today. Thanks!

What I just did was unplug all items in Home (Atv, OG HPs). Then removed the minis. Reset the minis, and set up one at a time.

I thought it was going to work as the first mini actually completed. But the 2nd one is stuck. I can pair the 2 for a hot second, then they immediately unpair.

I know at least some in Support are pulling their hair out because of the new Home architecture. It’s giving users all kinds of problems, and they aren’t able to solve them all.

It’s just weird that not everyone is having the same issue. Some are, some aren’t.

One thing to note, as I’ve plugged the Atv and OGs back in, they are in the Home app, but the OGs aren’t connected as hubs anymore.

Office are the minis, master are the OGs

As Vundu suggested plug the Home Pod (the one that isn't working) into your PC or Mac and then do the "Update". Surprised that Apple Support didn't tell you that.

The Mac thing didn’t work. However, I found out what worked.

I finally just “Remove Home” in the Home app. Then it started as a clean Home. I unplugged the AppleTV, unplugged all HomePods, then reset each one, one-by-one. Now the two rooms and all four HomePods are working properly and show up correctly (even with the weather stuff from the minis) and are functioning as proper stereo pairs.

The only difference is that now the AppleTV isn’t in the Home app. I don’t know why it’s not there (I checked settings on the AppleTV and things look correct), but I don’t care. I can Airplay to it without issues, so I’m good.

I’m going to call the tech support person in a minute and tell her what worked.

I’m not into home automation or anything, so it was frustrating having to go through this route.

Thanks, all, for your help. I appreciate your time and efforts.
