Brand new Samsung SSD no partition option

Hello everyone. I have a brand new Samsung 850 EVO SSD that I currently have hooked up to my computer externally via USB. Upon plugging it in, I received the message "The disk you inserted is not readable by this computer" so I clicked the "Initialize" option, and when disk utility opened up to my SSD, the partition option is greyed out. I can choose first aid or erase, but not partition. What do I do? The drive is brand new and still uninitialized. Please let me know. Thank you.
