I haven't read anything here about it, so here's some old news

the iphone 5S/5C was launched today in Brazil.

The price for the 5S 64Gb is R$ 3600 unlocked/no contract.. There were several launch events last night at midnight, and they had all models/sizes for sale.

With a 1 year contract and some bonus points I was able to get the 5S/64 for R$2100, which is pretty good for brazil prices.

The 5S in brazil is the ME438BZ/A model, and it works with the 4G here (same as some european countries).

A few 4G tests today in Sao Paulo Brazil gave me speeds around 30Mb dl/ 1Mb ul.

    1 US$ = 2,28 R$ today.

Brasil uses Band 7 for 4G/LTE. So the unlocked US model will not support LTE in Brasil only 3G.

That sucks for me because I use T-Mobile and the European 5s does not support AWS. So I'm stuck with 2 different iPhones if I want to use LTE in the U.S. and Brasil.

Which model is the ME438BZ/A? A1530 or A1457 ? I'm asking because the A1530 will work on the ON network, and the 1457 will not.

And which carrier did you use for the 4G test? ( Vivo, Claro, Oi ) ??

    Thank you.

The European iPhone that works in the UK, Germany and France is the model that works with LTE in Brasil. The model has to support Band 7. Model A1530 should work as well since it supports Band 7.

    Model Number
    Phone 5s
    Model A1457

    LTE Band Support
    1 (2100 MHz)
    2 (1900 MHz)
    3 (1800 MHz)
    5 (850 MHz)
    7 (2600 MHz)
    8 (900 MHz)
    20 (800 DD)

    Supported LTE Networks
    Claro
    Oi
    TIM
    Vivo

    ----------

Does Claro, Oi, TIM or Vivo offer 4G for prepaid? Or is it only for contract accounts?

Which carriers did you do the 4G test on? I can't seem to get 4G with TIM in Rio de Janeiro. Will try with Claro later in the week...

Which model iPhone 5s are you using? Does it support band 7? Also I'm told 4G is only for postpaid accounts. Not prepaid.

The iPhone I got at Claro is model A1457

I tested 4G it on Claro's network in Sao Paulo.

    I have a postpaid account. I don't know if there's prepaid 4G.

BTW, the 4G here sometimes is fast, and sometimes it won't transfer one bit of data, even with full bars and saying 4G on the phone.

in brazil, if things work half the time, it's already a win.
