Model - iPod Nano 2nd generation, 4GB

First problem - the screen is too bright, and the text very faint. I can just barely read it if I look at it at an angle, otherwise it's just a bright white light.

It plays fine. It is just difficult to select the playlist.

Second problem - Thought I might try a factory reset. (I've got all my music backed up, so no risk of losing it. I connected the iPod to iTunes. There is no summary tab showing. I can't see how to reset without this.

Update - I found the summary tab, and reset.

Hasn't helped. It's still a bright white screen.

Sounds like the lcd itself is failing. You can fix it, or get a 'new' iPod off eBay cheaply. Honestly, it would probably be around the same price either way.
