Hey

I'm not sure if this is a iOS 11 bug or an iPhone issue (I have the 6 Plus) and it didn't do this with iOS 10, not sure if it started with the latest iOS release (11.2) but it definitely started with 11.

I have auto brightness turned OFF, I crank my brightness all the way to max which is where it should stay. When I come back and check the brightness level a few hours later or after doing things on my phone by swiping up, the brightness has lowered about maybe 10 percent or so all on it's own (remember auto brightness is turned OFF!)

Any ideas, or just another bug that Apple hasn't discovered?

Is it actually turned off? iOS 11 can automatically enable it and the setting to toggle it was moved.

Yes I'm aware the setting was moved, I've checked, it's turned off. What do you mean iOS can automatically enable it? What's the point of having the option to turn it off if it's just going to be automatically turned back on? I wish they would leave stuff alone.

When I say it lowers by itself I don't mean it adjusts like it would if auto brightness was turned on, it lowers the brightness about 10 percent, same situation every time it happens. I just checked it now, 15 minutes ago I put it back to full brightness, not it's been lowered again by about 10 percent...auto brightness is off. Yet another bug...

Is your phone warm? It will auto-dim the screen if your device is warm. And because I'm a stickler, thats less than 5%, and I highly doubt you would actually notice the difference. Even in direct sunlight.

Try for yourself. Turn it to 100%, then drop it 1/8th of an inch to match yours. The screen doesnt even begin to dim. It appears the top 10-15% is all the same brightness. Its not until 15-20% down that it actually begins to dim.

Doesn't matter if it's warm or cold...having not used it for hours it still does it. As I said, "maybe" 10 percent, whether it's 5 percent or 10 percent, let's not nitpick here.

It is noticeable, maybe your eyes aren't as good as mine, when I put it back to 100 percent I can see the brightness increase. Stop making excuses for something that is clearly a bug, if auto brightness is turned OFF (which it is) then whatever brightness level the user sets their device to is where it should stay, PERIOD! Anyways I can see where this is going, nowhere so I'll bail out now, not going to get into a flame war on the internet. I know how to use my phone, I'm no dummy!

That's strange. I meant the auto brightness setting would turn back on after an update. I have no idea what could be causing that.

My iPad Pro does the same thing. Not heat related, it’s ios 11.
