I'm a big 3rd gen fan - In fact, I just finally upgraded to a new iPod (16GB Touch) because I liked the touch interface so much.

I don't understand how people didn't think the 3rd gen was intuitive to use. Unless they didn't actually use one and just made assumptions instead.

I had a 2nd gen iPod and never looked back after getting my 3rd gen!

The 3G is the greatest of all the 'classic' iPods. Absolutely no moving parts, Firewire, and remote. I'd love to see a new iPod with the same styling. I HATE THE CLICK WHEEL.

TEG

loved my 3rd gen,
it broke,
got a 5th gen meh,
traded it for a equivilant 3rd in pristine condition and extras.
love it and iphone now.

I would like to see it, but i wouldn't buy it because I have no need for it.

Finally I've found others who share my love for the 3G. Everyone I talk to has said the button design sucked, but personally I love it compared to the new click wheel. The design feels solid and reliable. The new click wheel just seems flimsy feeling to me. I take great care of it so it'll last too. I swear to you, there's only a few scratches on the metal part. I'm getting about 3 hours battery life on mine now. Can I still send it in for the $60 battery replacement program?

the 3G was solid. I miss it so much, not because it was the best design, but because they replaced it with such a horrendous design (click wheel) and haven't fixed it since.

I'm getting a classic for the holidays, but I've been reconsidering it a lot anymore...

Sorry, bt the 3rd gen is NOT ergonomic... Or at least for me.

I am a (as sad as it is) Pre-pubescent 14 year old (WHERE IS MY GROWTH SPURT!), and my tiny hands will NOT grasp the iPod 3rd gen's buttons that well. Ive used one before.

wow haha i think you could have just said you were 14. a little too much info haha.

They probably would have a hit on their hands reproducing the 3G with the following option set.

flash memory, ridiculously great battery, USB 2.0, extremely thin design, and otherwise spec for spec with the original 3G.

No moving parts and a monochrome screen give you a true iPod Touch Classic for $99.

Increasing the screen size to mimic a 5/6G and other small aesthetic changes may be necessary.

The 3G was my first iPod. I do miss the days when they came with everything, USB, Firewire, powerbrick, remote, case, good times.

The 3G was my first iPod too. I was really excited for it, even rode a bike (I was only about 16 at the time) down to the shop to pick it up :D

I gave it to my girlfriend when I got my Mini. Arguably the biggest buying mistake I ever made. The Mini was nice and small but 1/3 the storage. It was built like a tank but I really did miss the touch buttons. I agree that the layout was a little off but the touch buttons with the backlight was beautiful.

Now I think the 5G are the best looking iPods

The first two generations never attracted me that much buch I had to get the 3G when it came out. 4G was a step backwards in my opinion

Aww, reading this I had to revive my 40gb 3G.

Plugged it into the computer and hey presto. Works treats.

It's going to serve some time now; let my 6G have a rest.

Good times, bring back the retro. (Hardly, but meh).

I would totally support this if it happened. I loved the separate buttons and the lack of needing to "click"... if it didn't light up the way it used to, though it would definitely break my heart.

Other than the classic, my wife and I have owned multiple size-versions and color (black/white) of every generation of the regular iPods since shortly after they were released. Our opinion is that the 3G was our least liked of all of them. The day the 4G was announced we immediately sold our 3G's and couldn't have been happier. Now had I started with a 3G and not been used to the easier-to-use all-in-one-wheel maybe I would have thought differently

Count me in. The 3G was my first iPod and, 3+ years later, it still works like a charm. It plays 9+ hours a day in a dock in my office. Battery is pretty much shot but it just keeps on playing.

my friend still has one...i have never seen a uglier ipod...lets stick to the ipod touch, classic, and nano:apple:

I have a 40 GB 3rd Gen. First iPod... loved that thing. Afterwards, I bought a Mini and now I'm on to a Touch. That reminds me.. 3 iPods laying around at the homestead is way too many!

this iPod is connected to a cube in the itunes heaven. Still have a cube and one of these iPods in the house. Great iPod , deffinetley a good time in apple history .
