Question for you all - do you see a possible future where the JetDrive or something similar returns to expand MacBook Pro storage now that the half-depth SD card slot has returned? The old SKUs hardly offer any storage at all, and there doesn't appear to be a similar product on the market outside of external drives.

But if someone knows of something that can go in and stay in without adding significant size or something else to carry around, I'm all ears!

I have the 16” and just ordered the BaseQI adapter for use with microSD cards. I arrives Wednesday and I can post back with the results. If it works, you can add up to 1TB of extra storage. I’ll wait to see if it works with a few sd cards that I have laying around. I loved my JetDrive and am sorry that they’ve not updated for the new 14 and 16” MBPs.

There are some Transcend JetDrives for sale on Transcend's Amazon store. 64, 128, 256gb. You would have to figure out which depth you need. Couldn't find any specs for size.

I thought about doing this but when you add up the cost of the adapter plus a good size card you might as well spend a little extra to get 1TB of extremely fast SSD. $200 upgrade vs $100-$150 for SD storage? Pass.

Keep in mind that SD cards at not very reliable. They are not made for a very high number of read/write cycles. If it is just for storing some files then it is ok, but do not use them as work drives a they will fail quickly and mostly catastrophically. If you want piece of mind then get a good external USB-C SSD.

For the 14" m1 pro MBP you need the one that's designed for the 13" MacBook Pro from 2015. It fits perfectly flush and you can still grab it with your fingernails and pull it out. Works great.

For me, I already ordered the 1tb model and to go to 2tb would have been an additional $400. Didn't really need that much extra space and didn't want to spend that much, so I bought a 256gb jet drive (designed for the mbp 13" 2015) for $60 on amazon and it fits perfectly and works like a charm.

I ordered the BaseQI #504A, and it doesn’t fit flush, extends out a smidge. This was the closest depth x length offered for the 16". Others had a smaller depth but the length wouldn't have worked. You can see the size/dimensions on Amazon.
Between your picture and what Nicole1980 wrote it looks like the BaseQI 303A with its 1.61cm would fit perfectly for the 14" and 16" MacBook Pro 2021? It's 2.2mm less deep than the 504A you got.

The 303A might fit the 14", but if you look at the measurements on Amazon's website that I provided, the 303A looks like it might fall short. However, the JetDrive Lite 360 looks like it would be a good fit for the 16" but the capacity is only 256GB.

303A - 0.9 x 0.8 x 0.1 inches
504A - 1.02 x 0.08 x 0.72 inches

I don't understand your measurements. According to the size table on the Amazon page you linked what they call Length comes in at 1.61cm for the 303A and 1.83cm for the 504A. And surely they are the same in the other two dimensions.

The width 303A is 0.9 and the width for the 504A (16”) is 1.02 which is the perfect width for the 16”. The 303A falls short by .03. With that short fall, I am not sure if the 303A’s connector points will line up and seat properly with the 16”.

I may be misunderstanding the measurements though. You can always buy both to try out.
