my expectations of Apple car will be losely based around Marc Newson's Ford 021C Concept from 1999. He was also the designer behind the Apple Watch. The Apple Watch was heavily inspired by his Ikepod Watch (including watch strap). He is also partner with Ive in LoveFrom company.

The design presented here is not that far from Ford 021C -> It has the same proportion, door opening, seats.
Also, the body is smooth without too many curves. So we are talking about upgraded version of this design:

I'd say that the company accomplished what they wanted - there is a lot of buzz around those renders. People miss the point; this kind of thing is not to show actual product.
