mandatory for what reason? I'm appalled how they call themselves "intel" when they're "dumb."

My only problem with Intel are their "delays", which for sure is annoying. But you seem to have a higher level of anger toward them?

A reason the new chipset could be delayed is because Intel still needs to monetize the current chipset, and with worldwide PC demand slowing, it's taking longer for intel to do that. It isn't like any other PC CPU manufacturers are holding intel's feet to the fire.

That's the thing.

Despite AMD continuing to make chips that compete in the low- to mid-end markets, Intel has a practical monopoly. They are not receiving enough pressure to "force" their innovation. The market has slowed.

I guess this means no 11.85" Retina MacBook Air before July/August. Apple would probably want the Broadwell GPU and lower power requirements to power the screen without requiring a humongous battery like the rMBP.

Yeah, that's annoying. :/ But then again I'm due to replace my current 11" during summer, so I suppose that's a good time.

From what I know of it, Broadwell is all about the GPU. In Intel's words, it's supposed to do for them what Haswell did for battery life.

If you think the Iris Pros in the current MBPs are a little too slow for whatever you're doing, it might be worth keeping an eye out on.

Fantastic.

Skylake should be late 2015 or early 2016. I'm waiting for that as well.

What's so good about Skylake?

This news is inaccurate, broadwell is no longer delayed, it is currently in production and will be available in macbook air come summer or even earlier. Not sure why macrumors is providing inaccurate or outdated information to people...

Mate, don't be surprised; the Samsung Galaxy Gear has been a monumental failure (they're practically giving it away at this point with phones etc) yet we have moronic analysts claiming that it is the 'future trend'. Honestly, it as though such people create hype about something just so they can manipulate companies and consumers to get interested in something that isn't demanded but it'll allow these muppets to make a quick buck. These analysts are looking for the next big thing but they ignore the fact that the next big thing relies on infrastructure such as high speed broadband being available at a low price and accessible to the vast majority of citizens to allow the next wave of content delivery to occur.

Let me make a prediction: Desktops, Workstations and Laptops will all co-exist with tablets and smartphones as they're complimentary products rather than replacing - the sales are declining not because people are moving on mass to new devices but because the upgrade cycles are longer and when there are examples of replacement it is a cheap laptop being replaced with a tablet thus Apple gains either way - gain on the tablet and gain then gain on the computer sale.

What is coming next, Broadwell or a Haswell refresh? I've heard both, and it's a bit confusing. Hope this doesn't affect possible laptop refreshes at WWDC.

It depends on what chips. Haswell E/EP would be the next thing for that line. Apple only uses those in the mac pro in case you're wondering. Everything else would be Broadwell.

You know that the tech sites can spin that any way they want right? They like to call things delays when they don't precisely correspond to a 12 month cycle, which may not even make sense for intel's business model.

The initial article claims the same timeline as yours. Note my comment above about tech site spin.
