Hi everyone,

Does anyone know if there is a PPC version of Brogue, the rogue like game? I'm trying to find a version that runs on my Powerbook G4 running 10.4.11.

Thanks!

:)

I was unable to find a PowerPC variant of the game, only Intel. Per the website , it looks like dev Brian Walker can be reached at penderprime@gmail.com with general questions, thoughts, bugs etc.

I think having a PowerPC version of the game to run natively on our old Macs would be very cool :)

Good luck to you.

Thanks for the heads up, I've sent an e-mail to the author asking about a PPC port.

So, I heard back from the developer of Brogue (nice guy!), here's what he wrote...

"Oh boy, PowerPC is old! I think Apple switched to Intel in the mid 2000s...

Original versions of Brogue were "FAT" executables, so I suspect modern Brogue versions could run just fine on PowerPC, but Apple makes it difficult to maintain backward compatibility with modern Xcode tools. So I think if you want to make it work you'll have to do some frankensteining with code from the current release and Xcode project files / targets (and maybe platform code too) from back in the day alongside modern Brogue code. The good news is that I kept the "Brogue code" and "Platform code" pretty well segregated with a pretty simple set of functions connecting them. If you want to try your hand, you can get old Brogue releases in this Google Drive folder. Good luck! :)

Brian"

So it looks like it's at least theoretically possible to get the latest version to work! Here is the link to the older versions that he sent in the e-mail...

Now, I have NO IDEA how any of this Xcode programming works so if there is an intrepid PPC programmer lurking in the forums who can take up this challenge, then "Huzzah" I say! In fact, here's three for good measure...

"Huzzah...Huzzah...Huzzah!"

:)
