Have to vent, yesterday around 5am while out on a run I dropped my phone and broke the screen. Took it in later that evening and the good people at the apple store fixed it. TODAY I was helping my daughter get into the car and dropped it AGAIN and broke the screen. Took it back to apple and had to use my second Apple Care + incident thing. I think this is a record. The people at the apple store were great though.

I broke my 7+ screen about 24 hours after I got it when a the bag it was in (with 5 pool towels) fell over. I also have a silicone case. I'm going Tuesday for repair and I think I will switch to a case that covers all the edges.

How do these YouTube guys drop naked iPhones 3 different ways from waist height and not break the screen?

Real life s*cks! :)

I find it interesting that the common thing about these 2 incidents is: the silicone case.

Coincidence? Of course it is....

The one in ApplePro's video is very inaaccurate. a majority of pavements aren't as smooth as the one he drop-tested his iphone on. Check out phonebuff's video; he uses an actual concrete brick to do a true test. After watching EverythingApplePro's video I was more confident in going naked, then as I was coming out the dentist I drop the phone not from about 2-3 feet high on concrete, not even close to how high he dropped the phones, and the corner of my screen has a small crack on it now, and a dent on the frame. (I was planning to return it when the iphone 7 was back in stock, now I have to pay for repairs in advance before even thinking about what color I want to get for the 7)

Long story short, they don't test the phone on the surface that actually matters, concrete.

Sad to hear the silicone didn't hold up. I made a promise though. That's the only case I'm buying.

I've never broken a phone before in my life it comes down to how people take care of their stuff. I use spigen neo hybrid on my 6S, it covers the sides. I also have a screen protector from power support. if you are prone to drop stuff, use a glass type screen protector might help.

Damn. Kinda reminds me of those people who buy a brand new badass car. And then crash it, on their way home

When I got my car earlier this year, I was actually paranoid about that happening Lol

No glass screen protector? I dropped my old iPhone 6 once and the glass screen protector shattered. The screen protector saved the screen. You can get two on amazon for $8. Worth every cent.

Not a bad idea but I have to toss in this small disclaimer: the only time I've ever shattered a phone screen was the one time I shelled out for a tempered glass screen protector.

A glass screen protector will only transfer the force to the actual screen. You want something that would absorb the force like a case with a lip or one of those screen protectors that are like those 3M clear wraps for cars. Unfortunately they have ****** clarity and feel.

Definitely get a screen protector. They don't add much to the thickness of the device bht boy do they come in handy!!

I know your pain. I only dropped and cracked a phone once, many years ago, but I once had three flat tires in two separate incidents on the same day, on a weekend, over two hundred miles from home! Really. No fun at all. When it rains, it sometimes pours.

Always put my iPhones in a OB Defender case, remove the silly plastic screen protector and put a glass screen protector on it and so far I have never broke an iPhone. My 6+ survived a 20 ft drop onto concrete as soon as I got it last year. Love Otter Box!

Oh wow I JUST posted this about one hour ago in another thread and you hit two of the issues I addressed, I don't know if you had a case or not on your phone but your luck the last two days has been horrible. Sorry to hear about the issues but at least your phone is fixed again!

From the other thread -

I always keep my iPhones naked and I've never had an issue, you just have to think about your phone before you use it and you shouldn't have any issues besides tripping or if you're doing something that can cause issues (exercise, etc). Whenever I tired to use cases they seemed to trap dirt, sand, little particles and so on which look nasty and probably leaves little to big scratches on the phone.

Just be intelligent about using your phone naked:

1. Don't put it somewhere with ANYTHING else, I use my front right pocket with nothing in it. I don't care how good the new Gorilla glass is or what special coating is on it, etc. Just keep it alone so nothing besides the inside of your pants pockets, purse, etc can rub up against it.

2. Be careful when getting in and out of your car, this seems to be one of the biggest issues that people have when dropping their phone. Just pay attention its simple and if you have something in your hands then stop...put the stuff down...put your phone in your pocket...then continue and get in your vehicle.

3. When you lay your phone down just look at where you plan to lay it, very simple. When you have a case you tend to just put your phone on the counter, table, etc but when you go naked you have to look first and a quick brush with your hand to clean any crumbs away is enough.

4. If your hands are wet, if you just put on lotion, have something on your hands (sauce, oil, butter, etc) or if your hands aren't dry then think first before handling your phone because it will more than likely slip out and bounce off the ground.
