Hi guys,

I was trying to remove the ram from my mbp and voila, when i pushed back the "ram lock," it broke!!! :( has anyone else experienced this before? will apple repair this for free?

on a similar topic, is the ram socket connected to the logic board? meaning if they have to replace the broken locks, will they have to replace the whole logic board>

Usually, the RAM "riser" is one piece, and is soldered into the board. Odds are, you will need a whole new logic board, which unfortunately also means a new CPU, new GPU, new everything. Which part did you break? Do you have a photo?

i'll try to take photos later when i get home. i broke the ram lock; the one which makes the ram modules stay in their place. i think it's also called the ram latch.
