Recently my iPhone 4's home button has been acting up. Only the left side of it works and any press to the right side and some of the bottom of it does not do anything. First, I am assuming Apple would replace it without a problem but if i hold out till the white iPhone comes out would they replace it with a white one?

Thank You.

Just my opinion but I'd have to say there is ZERO chance that Apple would allow you to replace a black iPhone you bought with a white one.

Does Apple have any policy against it or do you know of someone that has tried?

Search...there's about a 20 page post on this already. Apple will replace the phone if you can duplicate the issue when you hit the genius bar.

I will be able to duplicate it. My question is mainly about changing the color.

I once asked if a MacBook Pro with a glossy display could be replaced with one with a matte display and they said 'no'. I'm pretty sure that Apple will only replace your product with an identical replacement, no matter what it is.

It would be a different model number. There is no way they can switch models with a replacement. Not a chance....
